written communication dogs were part
of the human environment at least 9000
years ago as seen in cave drawings.

Resolutions
(StatePoint) The New Year offers the
perfect time for a fresh start and a
renewed commitment to getting
finances back on track after a season of
spending – one where many Americans
felt the effects of the pandemic on their
wallets even before the onset of the
holidays.
In fact, COVID-19 has already prompted
consumers to start thinking differently
about their finances. According to
Lincoln Financial Group’s Consumer
Sentiment Tracker, 59% say they are
planning to make permanent changes
to the way they spend and save due to
the crisis. The findings went on to show
that consumers’ top three financial
concerns in today’s market include
emergency savings (41%), having
enough income in retirement (40%) and
inflation (39%).
“Our research found consumers are
especially interested in protection
during times of financial uncertainty,
which reinforces the need for financial
planning,” said Sharon Scanlon, senior
vice president, Customer Experience,
Producer Solutions and Retirement
Operations for Lincoln Financial Group.
“Everyone has competing priorities but
making a few easy adjustments can
help people achieve their financial
goals.”

the painting This painting was painted
about two hundred years after the Van
Eyke wedding painting showing that
dogs were continuing to be important in
the life of people as history progressed.
A close examination shows that the
artist creating the painting is reflected in
the mirror.
The Dutch artist, Anthony Van Dyke was
commissioned by Charles I of England
to paint his eldest children in which the
oldest son is shown in the center of the
painting with his hand on the head
of a large mastiff dog with a smaller

The significance of dogs continued in
European history through the Victorian
era and into the 20th century. Dogs as
companions, guardians, baby sitters,
and all-around family members were
evident in the settlement of the United
States. The book “Beautiful Joe”,
although written by a Canadian author
became a best seller in the U.S. in the
1880s. The book was about a dog that
had been abused by an evil owner
with his ears being severed by an ax
as a deliberate act of cruelty. He was
rescued and became a symbol for
the initiation of the Humane Society to
prevent animal cruelty. Hundreds of
books have been written about dogs

some by significant authors such as John
Stenbeck’s “Travels with Charlie” about
his travel around the perimeter of the
U.S. with his dog Charlie.
Several films and television shows have
been very popular regarding dogs.
“Lassie Come Home”, inspired the 50s
television show “Lassie”. “Old Yeller”
1950s film, “Hachi, A Dog’s Tale about
a true story of a dog in Japan that met
his owner at the train station every day,
“Lady and the Tramp” a film made
famous by Walt Disney, and of course
“Benji” as series of books and films about
a small dog which was originally found
in a shelter in Burbank, California in the
late 1960’s. The first film about Benji
was made in 1974. His story has been
popular through the past 4 decades
with follow-up films and books.
One of the most famous paintings giving
dogs human characteristics is a painting
created by Cassius Coolidge in 1894
titled “Dogs Playing Poker”. This painting
has had theme copies hundreds of times
and has had the original reproduced
thousands of times. This is representative
of how man’s best friend has been
formalized in most of the arts over the
ages demonstrating that dogs really
are part of humans interacting with the
animal world. That is not to minimize
the importance of cats which is another
topic.

The USO strengthens America’s
military service members by
keeping them connected to
family, home and country,
throughout their service to the
nation.
Created in 2019, the U.S. Space Force
and futuristic branding and unique
mission.
USO is quick to remind us they are not
Netflix’s “Space Force,” and released
five facts about the Space Force to
keep in your back pocket:
1. It is the first new branch of the military
in 73 years.
The Space Force was established on
December 20, 2019.
2. The Space Force mission is to
enhance the way U.S. forces fight and to
provide decision makers with additional
military options.
This means organizing, training and
equipping service members to
successfully conduct global space
operations. It also involves acquiring
military space systems, organizing space
forces and incorporating space power
into military strategy.
3. Service members assigned to the
Space Force are known as “guardians.”
About 16,000 uniformed and civilian
personnel support the mission in many
different capacities. Space Force
guardians help facilitate federal and
commercial rocket launches, operate
Department of Defense (DOD) satellites,
monitor for threats, track space debris
and much more.
4. The Space Force uniform, seal and
flag have symbolic meanings.
Guardian uniforms feature a dark navy
coat with silver thread on the sleeve
braiding to represent futurism and the
vastness of space. Six silver buttons –
since the Space Force is the sixth branch
of the military – run diagonally along
the right side of the body. Each button
is embossed with the Space Force seal,
which shows a grid-lined globe overlaid
with a delta.
