10. Use the arrow keys to highlight “Unpartitioned space,” then press C to create a new
partition. You are prompted to enter the size of the partition to be created.
11. Press Backspace to clear the field, type 12000, then press Enter. The screen now
shows a new partition with unformatted space of 12002 MB.
12. Select the new, unformatted partition, then press Enter.
A message asks you to select a file system for the partition.
Format the partition using the NTFS file system
Format the partition using the FAT file system
13. Press enter. (The NTFS line is highlighted by default.)
A message indicates that the disk is being formatted.
After the formatting, a second message says that Windows Setup is examining the hard
drives.
A third message appears:
Please wait while Setup copies files to the Windows 2000
installation folders.
This may take several minutes to complete.
A progress bar shows the percentage of completion. When the files have been copied,
a message appears briefly, saying that this portion of Setup is complete. The message
asks you to remove the diskette and CD-ROM from the drives in preparation for
rebooting.
14. Remove the CD-ROM from the drive. The system reboots by itself.
Following reboot, the Windows 2000 GUI screen appears. Continue by configuring
Windows 2000 as described in 3.4.2.
3.4.2. Configuring Windows 2000 Advanced Server
This procedure follows immediately after, and is continuous with, the installation
procedure in 3.4.1.
After the Windows 2000 Advanced operating system reboots (3.4.1), a Windows 2000 Setup
screen appears with a message box instructing you to insert the Windows 2000 Advanced
Server CD-ROM. Take the following steps:
1. Insert the Windows 2000 CD-ROM (labeled “Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced
Server”) into the drive, then click OK.
If you click OK before the drive is ready, a prompt indicates that files are needed from
the Windows 2000 Server CD-ROM. A scroll box identifies the directory from which
they will be copied. Click OK in the box if this occurs.
After about a minute, a Windows Wizard screen appears, followed by the Windows
2000 Server Setup screen. You can click Next and continue immediately or wait for
Setup to resume. Setup automatically starts detecting and installing devices. A
progress bar on the screen indicates that Setup is working. This process may take
several minutes.
