Installing and Configuring Windows 2000 Advanced Server The Windows 2000 Advanced Server installation process consists of an installation phase (3.4.1) in which prompts appear as text messages and a configuration phase (3.4.2) in which prompts are presented as graphical screens. The following subsections describe the Notes: • Switch the monitor concentrator to the Intel node position before beginning (see 2.5.2). • Configuration settings are chosen to minimize problems during initial installation. After hardware RFU, the site may wish to customize the configuration to meet its needs. 3.4.1. Installing the Windows 2000 Advanced Server Operating System Begin Windows 2000 Advanced Server installation as follows: 1. Insert the Windows 2000 Advanced Bootable CD-ROM into the drive unit. Note: To avoid missing a five-second timing window, please read all of step 2 (next) before executing it. 2. On the Intel node, reboot or turn power on. After the hardware initialization messages are displayed, the following messages appears at the top of the screen: Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration... Windows 2000 Setup ================== If you have the RAD6002-P64 RAID Controller, press the F6 key within five seconds. This will let you install the driver before the OS installation, a requirement at this time. 3. For all systems, wait for the Windows 2000 installation program to load its standard device files. The following message is then displayed: Setup could not determine the type of one or more mass storage devices... 4. Insert the “Unisys-Mylex RAID Win2000 Drivers” diskette (4556 3780) and press S, then Enter. 5. Select the Mylex AcceleRAID 352 Disk Array Controller to install it. 6. After the driver is installed, remove the diskette and press Enter to continue. 7. The Setup welcome menu appears: Welcome to Setup This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows 2000 to run on your computer. 3–16 Version 009B (Web Only) 7850 5104–009

Installing Windows 2000 Advanced Server (ES5044R, ES5085R, and ES2024R) ù To set up Windows 2000 now, press Enter. ù To repair a Windows 2000 installation, press R. ù To quit Setup without installing Windows 2000, press F3. 8. Press Enter to begin setting up Windows 2000. If an operating system was previously installed on this server, the following message may appear: Setup has determined that your computer's startup hard disk is new or has been erased, or that your computer is running an operating system that is incompatible with Windows 2000. If the hard disk is new or has been erased, or if you want to discard its current contents, you can choose to continue Setup. If your computer is running an operating system that is incompatible with Windows 2000, continuing Setup may damage or destroy the existing operating system. ù To continue Setup, press C. CAUTION: Any data currently on your computer's startup hard disk will be lost. ù To quit Setup, press F3. If the message above appears, press C to continue. A Windows 2000 Licensing Agreement screen appears. 9. Press F8 to indicate that you agree with the terms of the license agreement. A screen appears that identifies the unpartitioned disk space. Windows 2000 Server Setup ====================== The following shows existing partitions and unpartitioned space on this computer. Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to move the highlight to an item in the list. To set up Windows 2000 on the selected items, press ENTER. To create a partition in the unpartitioned space, press C.
