Installation Checklists and Tips 10 Base 5LAN (Thick Coax) Cautions • IP numbers reserved for private Internets by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) can be used to initially configure the ClearPath IX server; but to connect to the external Internet in the future, the site must get official IP addresses and then reconfigure all ClearPath IX server components with those addresses. • A site must not use numbers in the range 192.168.57.xxx. Unisys has selected numbers in that range for the ClearPath IX server’s internal FDDI LAN (see Appendix B). A suggested methodology for using addresses reserved for private LANs is to use Ethernet IP addresses in the range 192.168.58.xxx. That ensures that the Ethernet addresses identify a different LAN segment from the internal FDDI LAN, which uses numbers in the range 192.168.57.xxx. Figure 2–1 and Table 2–4 illustrate the connection of server components to the Ethernet network, and IP addresses that could be assigned, using that methodology. In addition, the site also must reconfigure CMS 1100 to support IP addresses for the 2200 node and system consoles (see 16.2). Note: Figure 2–1 and Table 2–4 show the use of this methodology with single-node systems only. 2200 Node 192.168.58.5 Coax Cable RJ-45 Cables Intel Node 192.168.58.3 or 192.168.58.4 Master System Console (2200 node) 192.168.58.11 SPO Server 192.168.58.15 Ethernet Hub Backup System Console (2200 node) 192.168.58.12 To Other System Consoles (SCF Workstations) SPO Workstation 192.168.58.16 Figure 2–1. Caution Installation Checklists and Tips The IP addresses shown in Figure 2–1 and Table 2–4 are meant to illustrate the use of IP addresses reserved for private networks. Those addresses are not necessarily valid addresses for the site. Table 2–4. Integrating with an Existing SPO Server The purchase of a ClearPath IX server entitles the site to use Single Point Operations Basic Edition for ClearPath IX (Basic Edition) software to operate a stand-alone ClearPath IX server or alternatively to manage one ClearPath IX server from one or more Single Point Operations Console (SPO Console) servers. 7850 5104–009 Version 009B (Web Only) 2–13
