Recovering from a PING Test Failure
The most common reason for PING test failure when you test interconnect communications
(Section 14) is lack of an FDDI driver, or an incorrectly installed one, on the Intel
node. Refer to the full operating system software installation procedure, or the Windows
2000, Windows NT, or UnixWare documentation, for steps to correctly install and
configure the FDDI driver.
2.3.2. Software Tips
These are points to be aware of as you install and configure the software. More
information follows in this section.
• Creating emergency recovery diskettes
• Choosing to perform a full installation even when software is preloaded or preinstalled
• Finding the correct license information for SCO UnixWare and Enterprise Backup and
Restore
• Configuring OS 2200 print queues
• Deciding to install Windows NT Server as a primary or backup domain controller
• Changing SPO aliases

Creating Emergency Recovery Diskettes
You must create an emergency recovery diskette for each Windows 2000 node, each
Windows NT node, each UnixWare node, and the SPO server. The procedures for creating
those diskettes are described as part of the procedures for completing installation of
Windows NT (7.1.17), Windows 2000 (7.2.9), and UnixWare (8.13).
Performing a Full Installation When Software Is Preloaded or Preinstalled
Intel node and system console software are preloaded on servers shipped to U.S. sites.
SPO server software, in addition to being preloaded, is preinstalled. Because a full set of
installation media is provided, you may wish to perform the full installation procedure,
even with software preloaded or preinstalled, for the following reasons:
• A problem was encountered while performing the procedure for preloaded or
preinstalled software.
• The site wants to verify that the installation media are good for future use.
• The site wants to train people in installation and configuration procedures for a
particular node.
• Some other reason particular to the site or to the system being installed.
