Glossary Single Point Autoaction Message System (SP-AMS) A program that runs on the SPO server and provides automatic message recognition and corresponding actions while monitoring ANSI X3.64-compliant (UNIX) host systems and A Series host systems. Contrast with Autoaction Message System. Single Point Logging A SPO Console capability that enables a user to store, in log files at a central location, an electronic history of messages from selectable message sources (managed host systems, SPO Console, and external applications). Single Point Status A capability of Single Point Operations that lets a user monitor the status of hardware and software components across multiple host systems. See also Status feature. Site Configuration Management System (SCMS) Software that runs on a site data facility (SDF) PC that is part of the System Control Facility (SCF). SCMS is used to configure system and partition definitions of hardware at a site. Information from the SCMS database includes an operations database (ODB) and a partition databank (PDB). The ODB and PDB give the Exec the information needed to operate the system hardware. The PDB is used to build several areas of the master configuration table (MCT). site data facility (SDF) The personal computer hosting SCMS in the System Control Facility (SCF). small computer system interface (SCSI) A protocol for connecting devices from several classes of peripherals to a host system without requiring modifications to hardware and software. SMTP Abbreviation for simple mail transfer protocol. See also SMTP address. SMTP address A simple mail transfer protocol (SMTP) address that uses the following Internet protocol for an e-mail address: [SMTP:address] For example, [SMTP:jdoe@site.com] SNMP See simple network management protocol. SNMP agent A software component on a network node that collects information and performs network management functions on behalf of authorized SNMP managers. Communications Management System (CMS 1100) includes SNMP agent software, which allows OS 2200 hosts to respond to requests for managed information by SNMP network managers. socket A software abstraction that provides the interface between application programs and communications software. Glossary Software Controlled Performance (SCP) A software feature that controls OS 2200 performance by means of an Exec key that authorizes the number of IPs the system may use and the performance level (a percentage of the maximum possible performance) at which the IPs may run. SP-AMS See Single Point Autoaction Message System. SP-AMS database The patterns and associated actions used by the Single Point Autoaction Message System that allows it to automatically recognize messages from UnixWare and A Series host systems and respond to these messages. SPO See Single Point Operations. SPO Console A software application that enables a user to monitor and control multiple host systems from a single workstation. SPO Console/Enterprise Server Edition (ESE) The full-featured version of SPO Console capable of monitoring and controlling OS 2200, A Series, UnixWare, and Windows NT systems. SPO/HMP Console A restricted version of SPO Console, specifically adapted to monitor and control a single ClearPath IX server. SPO server The SVR4 hardware platform on which SPO Console runs. SQL See Structured Query Language. static load balancing Manually moving a group between nodes of a cluster to manually balance the load across two nodes. static page A document object in the form of a file. The file can contain any type of data, such as text, graphic images, video, or audio. It is not an executable program file. Status feature A feature of SPO Console/ESE that allows a site to define additional classifications for use by Single Point Status and that allows new classes and attributes to be defined in classifications provided with SPO Console. Structured Query Language (SQL) A specialized language for defining, retrieving, changing, and maintaining data in databases. End users can use SQL to perform ad hoc, interactive queries. Programmers can include SQL statements in applications written with high-level languages, such as C, C++, and COBOL. 7850 5104–009 Version 009B (Web Only) Glossary–23
