Glossary hosts file HTML HTP/ic HTP/ix HTTP HVTIP The TCP/IP network configuration file that identifies the network addresses (IP addresses) of other hosts on the network. See Hypertext Markup Language. See High-Performance Transaction Processing Interconnect. See High-Performance Transaction Processing for XATMI. See hypertext transfer protocol. See High-Volume Transaction Processing HyperText Markup Language (HTML) The language used to tag the various structures of a document, such as headings and lists, so Web browsers can apply formatting rules to display the document’s contents and related graphics. HTML allows authors to define hypertext links between locations in the same document, between documents, and between documents and multimedia objects. hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) The primary protocol for transferring data over the Web. HTTP uses a simple algorithm that makes fast response times possible compared to earlier protocols, such as FTP. I IANA IIS See Internet Assigned Numbers Authority. Abbreviation for Microsoft Internet Information Server. instruction processor (IP) The central processing unit for execution of program and system software instructions. The instruction processor executes instructions, initiates input/output operations, and obtains instructions and data from main storage. integrated Operating Environment (IOE) The foundation software bundled with ClearPath HMP Series servers. The IOE includes operating systems, a database manager, online transaction processing (OLTP) software, integrated administration and operations software, integrated printing software, and application development software. Glossary Integration Expert The online integration assistant for effectively using ClearPath IX servers and creating solutions for business problems. Integration Expert (formerly PathMate) contains a Windows Help application that explains and runs the other built-in components including a package of tools, working prototype solutions, procedures, and product configuration aids. Intel node A computer in a ClearPath IX server that uses Intel processors and supports either Windows NT or UnixWare operating systems. A ClearPath IX server can contain from one to four Intel nodes. See also node, Windows NT node, and UnixWare node. Intel processing complex cabinet (IPCC) The cabinet housing the Intel nodes in a ClearPath IX server. See also Intel node. interconnect Private network that connects nodes in a ClearPath IX server. See also internal LAN. internal LAN The link that provides a private interconnect between nodes in a ClearPath IX server. Internet protocol (IP) addresses assigned to the nodes are from a block of addresses reserved for private internets by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) The central coordinator for assigning new Internet-wide IP addresses and other unique parameter values for Internet protocols such as domain names, port numbers, and management information base (MIB) object identifiers. internet protocol (IP) The routing or network layer of the TCP/IP architecture. IP is based on MIL–STD-1777 specifications for the Defense Data Network system. IP is a connectionless datagram protocol that routes data to host systems within a complex system of multiple network nodes and interconnected networks. interrupt request lines (IRQ) Hardware lines over which devices can send signals to get the attention of the processor when the device is ready to accept or send information. intranet IOE IP A private, enterprise-wide network that uses TCP/IP and Web technologies. See Integrated Operating Environment. See instruction processor and TCP/IP. IP address The 32-bit address assigned to hosts in a TCP/IP internet. An IP address identifies the network to which a host is attached, as well as a specific host on that network. The IP address usually is represented in dotted decimal notation (for example, xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) with each part (xxx) being a decimal number from 0 to 255 (represented by 8 bits). 7850 5104–009 Version 009B (Web Only) Glossary–11
