Notation Conventions
About This Guide
To simplify and clarify procedures, the following conventions are used throughout this
guide:
• Bold text is used to show a sample response to a prompting message in a procedure.
The response is shown as on the same line as the prompt. For example:
Your system IP Address has been set to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Is that correct [y/N]: Y
If the default value is entered, nothing is shown.
The explanation of what you are to enter follows the prompting message and any
sample entry. For example:
1. You are prompted to confirm that the IP address you entered is correct.
Your system IP Address has been set to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Is that correct [y/N]: Y
2. Enter yes (Y) if the entry is correct. Enter no (N) if it is incorrect.
• In addition to document titles and notes, plain italic text is used to indicate
information that may vary. For example:
Your system IP Address has been set to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Is that correct [y/N]:
• Bold italic text indicates variable input. For example:
Your system IP Address is? xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
If the variable input must be formatted in a certain way, as in the above example, the
format is shown.
