Installing the Basic OS 2200 IOE
Your reply begins with the same message number and a space, followed by the answer to
the request (in this example, the reel number):

Note that the reel number is only 6 characters long. Some ClearPath IX tape names are
longer than 6 characters (for example, HMP-OE1)—you can enter only 6 characters in
response to a prompt for a reel number.
13.2. Performing the Initial Boot
Caution
The initial boot with jump key 13 set destroys all files on fixed mass storage. Do
not perform an initial boot except when initially setting up the 2200 node.
Before you can install OS 2200 software products, you must perform an initial boot to load
and activate the Exec from the boot tape. The first steps you take to perform the boot
depend on the current state of the 2200 node as follows:
• Steps to take if the partition you want to boot is not activated (13.2.1)
• Steps to take if the partition you want to boot already is up and the Exec is running
(13.2.2)
Do the procedure in either 13.2.1 or 13.2.2 to prepare for the boot, then complete the boot
process as described in 13.2.3.
Note: Either the command line or the menu bar can be used to perform the steps
described. To toggle between the command line and menu bar, press the Esc
key.
13.2.1. Initial Boot Steps If Boot Partition Is Not Activated
If you do not have an activated boot partition, take the following steps to activate one:
1. Press F5 to access the SCF System Control display session at the master system
console.
2. If the cursor is not on the command line, press the Esc key to bring the cursor to the
command line.
3. Type the following command and press Enter to activate the partition:
AP xxxx
where xxxx is the partition name to be used to boot the system.
4. Proceed to 13.2.3.
