11.5. Installing Y2K Service Packs on the Windows
NT Workstation
Once the system is rebooted (11.3, step 6), log on to the workstation(11.14.2). The
operating system checks for possible Year 2000 problems and displays a message listing
any service packs needed to correct them:
To resolve Windows NT 4.0 Year 2000 issues you must install:
Microsoft Internet Explorer Service Pack
Microsoft Data Access Components Service Pack
Note: Make note of any other service packs not listed here so that you can install them
as well.
If no year-2000 issues are detected (no service packs are listed), continue by configuring
the FTP service, as described in 11.5. Otherwise, follow these steps to install the service
packs for Y2K remediation:
1. Click No to View the Y2K.TXT file.
2. Close the Welcome to Windows NT window.
3. Insert the Windows NT Service Pack CD-ROM in the drive. Internet Explorer should
again start automatically.
4. Scroll down the page and click Microsoft Internet Explorer Service Pack.
5. Click Install IE 4.01 SP1 for Intel-Based Systems.
6. Click Open.
An Active Setup window appears.
7. Click Next.
8. Check I accept, then click Next.
9. In the Installation Option list, click Standard Installation.
10. Click Next.
11. In the Windows Desktop Update, select No.
12. Click Next.
13. Highlight the correct country and click Next.
14. Click Next again.
A status bar shows the progress of the update installation.
15. When setup has finished, click OK.
A restart window is displayed.
16. Remove the CD-ROM and click OK.
The system reboots.
