11.2. Installing and Configuring Windows NT
Workstation
This section tells how to install and configure the Windows NT operating system on the
SPO workstation.
11.2.1. Installing Windows NT on the Workstation
Begin Windows NT Workstation installation as follows:
1. Insert the CD-ROM labeled “Microsoft Windows NT Workstation" into the drive.
2. Reboot or power on the SPO workstation.
The workstation boots from the CD-ROM, and a Welcome to Setup menu appears.
3. Press Enter to begin setting up Windows NT.
A message appears to indicate that Setup has recognized the following mass storage
device in your computer:
Adaptec AHA-294X/AHA-394X/AIC-78XX SCSI Controller
4. Press Enter to continue.
A message similar to this may appear:
Setup has determined that one or more of your hard disks has more than
1024 cylinders.
5. If the message above appears, press Enter to continue.
A message informs you that your hard disk is either new or erased, or that an operating
system already exists. [Does this imply preload?]
6. Press C to continue.
After a brief wait, a license agreement text screen appears.
7. Read the contents of the license agreement as follows:
a. Read the contents of the first page, then press the Page Down key to read the next
page.
b. When you reach the last page, press F8 to indicate that you agree with the terms of
the license agreement.
A hardware and software components list appears for you to verify.
8. Press Enter to continue.
A screen appears that identifies the unpartitioned space on the hard drive.
9. Use the arrow key to highlight the unpartitioned space, then press C to create a new
partition.
10. Press Backspace to clear the field, type 4000, then press Enter.
The screen now shows a new partition with unformatted space of 4001 MB.
11. Select the new partition, then press Enter.
