10.9. Creating UnixWare Emergency Recovery
Diskettes
This subsection describes how to create UnixWare emergency recovery diskettes.
Notes:
• Sites should create emergency recovery diskettes periodically to ensure that device
drivers are up to date.
• See the SCO UnixWare documentation for more information on UnixWare recovery
procedures.
Take the following steps to create emergency recovery diskettes for the SPO server:
1. If you are not already logged on, log on as the root user (user-id root) in character
mode (10.15.3).
2. Enter the following command:
/sbin/emergency_disk diskette1
You are prompted to insert a diskette.
Please insert a floppy and press
3. Insert a diskette into the disk drive and press Enter.
The following message appears:
This will take some time. Please wait . . .
After about 2 minutes, the following message appears:
Please enter the medium to use for emergency_rec (e.g. ctape1)?
4. Enter diskette1.
After another 2 minutes, the following message appears:
Insert the SECOND boot floppy into diskette drive and press
5. Remove the first diskette, then insert the second diskette into the disk drive and press
Enter.
After a few minutes, the following message appears:
Creation of the Emergency Recovery boot floppy was successful.
Label the diskettes as follows and set them aside for later use if needed:
• For a UnixWare node—“UnixWare Emergency Recovery Disk 1 of 2” and “UnixWare
Emergency Recovery Disk 2 of 2”
• For the SPO server—“SPO Server Emergency Recovery Disk 1 of 2” and “SPO Server
Emergency Recovery Disk 2 of 2”
Continue by installing the multiport card driver, as described in 10.10.
