• Use the up and down arrow keys to select Mount File Systems, then press Enter.
This mounts the UnixWare operating system file systems under the /mnt directory.
6. Use the up and down arrow keys to select Access UnixWare Shell.
The UnixWare shell prompt appears.

7. Enter the following commands to access the boot file for editing (you can use a
different editor from vi, which is used in this example).
# cd /mnt/stand
# vi boot
8. Edit the boot file as follows:
a. Find the line in the file that begins with the word Console.
b. Insert a pound sign (#) character in front of that word (this makes the line a
comment).
c. Save the file and exit from the editor.
d. Exit from the UnixWare shell by entering the following command:
# exit
The Emergency Recovery Menu reappears.
9. Select Unmount File Systems from the menu.
This removes the operating system files from the /mnt directory.
10. Remove the diskette from the drive unit, then select Reboot from the menu.
After about 5 minutes, the UnixWare desktop reappears.
If you need to redirect console output again (Section 12), take the following steps:
1. At the desktop, double-click Applications, then Terminal.
The following prompt appears:
$
2. Use an editor to access the boot file again as in the following example:
$ vi /stand/boot
3. Find the Console line and remove the pound sign (#) character. The line now begins
with the word Console.
4. Save the file and exit from the editor.
5. Enter the following command to return to the UnixWare desktop:
# exit
6. Double-click the Shutdown icon.
The following message appears:
Shutdown system are you sure?
7. Click SHUTDOWN.
