After a few minutes, the following message appears:
Creation of the Emergency Recovery boot floppy was successful.
Label the diskettes as follows and set them aside for later use if needed:
• For a UnixWare node—“UnixWare Emergency Recovery Disk 1 of 2” and “UnixWare
Emergency Recovery Disk 2 of 2”
• For the SPO server—“SPO Server Emergency Recovery Disk 1 of 2” and “SPO Server
Emergency Recovery Disk 2 of 2”
See 8.13.2 for procedures for using the diskettes.
8.12.2. Booting from the Emergency Recovery Diskettes
If a UnixWare node or the SPO server does not successfully reboot for any reason, you can
boot from the emergency recovery diskettes as follows:
1. Insert the applicable UnixWare node or SPO server diskette labeled “Emergency
Recovery Disk 1 of 2” into the drive unit.
2. Turn power on if it is currently off, or briefly turn power off and then back on.
After 2 minutes, the SCO screen appears, then after another minute, an Emergency
Recovery screen appears followed by a message to insert the second emergency
recovery disk:
UnixWare 2 - Emergency Recovery
Insert the second emergency recovery
floppy and press ENTER.
3. Insert the applicable UnixWare node or SPO server diskette labeled “Emergency
Recovery Disk 2 of 2” into the drive unit, then press Enter.
After a brief wait, the following message appears:
The hard disk is sane.
Press ENTER to continue.
4. Press Enter to continue.
An Emergency Recovery Menu appears as follows:

Mount File Systems
Unmount File Systems
Access UnixWare Shell
Restore Disk(s)
Reboot
5. The actions you now take depend on whether you are rebooting a SPO server or a
UnixWare node as follows:
• For the SPO server—Use the up and down arrow keys to select the desired
recovery action as determined by procedures set up at the site.
