What is the Guedel (oropharyngeal) airway?
The guedel (oropharyngeal) airway is a stimulating plastic tube that sits on top of the mouth and ends
at the base of the lingo (an attachment to help keep the airway open).
• Oxygen mask or bag mask ventilation can be applied on top if requested
• Use in cases with reduced GCS to prevent lingo covering the epiglottis
• Use a size that matches the distance between the mouth corners of the case and the corners
of their jaws.

of the way.
• If the patient detects it is doubtful that they will allow this airway. Stop inserting and try
nasopharyngeal airway instead.
