VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHTFor the duration of fiscal year 2020-2021, COVID-19 safety precautions placed limitations on volunteering.We want to shine a spotlight on an individual who nearly singlehandedly kept the spirit of volunteerismalive and well at Encompass, serving and keeping our families supplied with critical resources.2020-2021 ENCOMPASS VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: MELODY GRANILLO, VOLUNTEER SINCE 2018After retiring from a successful 30-year career in biotech, Melody wanted to focus on the passions she previously hadn’thad time for: gardening, bee keeping, goat tending, and community service. Since 2018, Melody has logged morethan 350 hours, gaining a reputation as a consistently reliable, go-to volunteer.When asked why she volunteers Melody responded, “It’s[for] a really good cause, and the role that I play is importantbecause I want full-time staff to focus on their important work.I can pick up baby supplies and pull weeds in the garden andlet them focus on programming.”“I want full-time staff tofocus on their importantwork. Her dedication to picking up weekly suppliesfrom Eastside Baby Corner has never wavered during theCovid-19 pandemic, providing a level of certainty duringuncertain times for our families.To help ready the Imagine Serenity Garden for the opening of the new Child Development Center in the summer of 2021,Melody stepped up to lend Encompass her extensive gardening skills, properly caring for and maintaining the carefullymanicured space. She continues seeking to foster future garden volunteers, ensuring the tranquility of this prizedEncompass space for seasons to come.We recognize and highlight Melody as a pillar of the Encompass volunteer force. A huge thank you to her, and allEncompass volunteers who have helped us through the 2020-2021 year!18
