Mangrove Management Optimization for Resilient<br />

Since 2019, CCEF has been working with partners<br />
in helping rehabilitate the Biasong Mangrove Site In Talisay<br />
City, Cebu. Lear Corporation was one of CCEF’s partners for<br />
its project SMILE in a joint mangrove planting and coastal<br />
cleanup in 2019. Last November 26, 2021, Lear Corporation<br />
has officially adopted<br />

28 sacks of plastic and 53 Crown of Thorns collected in<br />
Looc, Oslob Cebu<br />
Nov 27, 2021—-The Municipality of Oslob organized a<br />
multi-sectoral underwater and coastal cleanup together<br />
with partners from the Coastal Conservation and Education<br />
Foundation (CCEF), the Philippine National Police-Oslob,<br />
Cebu City Maritime Police-Region 7, Bureau of Fire<br />
Protection the Philippine Coastguard-Alcoy, Samboan,<br />
Oslob and alumni from the Science High school Batch 1996.<br />
The Opening Remarks started with a message from Proceso<br />
Bomediano, Oslob Municipal Agricultural Officer followed<br />
by a welcoming message from Con. Dodgie O. Abines, SB<br />
Committee on Agriculture Oslob and Leoncio Benologa,<br />
Barangay Captain of Looc, Oslob.<br />
Afterward, participants were asked to group themselves<br />
to conduct a cleanup in Barangay Looc and Looc-Bonbon<br />
Shoal. The Science High Batch 1996 donated 50 boxes of<br />
disposable masks for Barangay Looc for the activity.<br />
Rubbish collected<br />
After the cleanup, the participants were able to collect 28<br />
sacks of plastic trash most composed of plastic bottles and<br />
sachets, and 1 sack of plastic trash from discarded fishing<br />
nets and fishing lines. Divers were also able to remove 53<br />
Crown of Thorn Starfish, a known predator of corals in<br />
Looc-Bonbon Shoal.<br />
