This overview <strong>of</strong> furniture design provides you with both a historical <strong>and</strong> a technical perspective.<br />
In the first two sessions, you’ll identify <strong>and</strong> explore the major periods <strong>of</strong> furniture styles<br />
throughout the centuries <strong>and</strong> learn how to identify major periods <strong>of</strong> design. The final session is<br />
focused on qualities <strong>of</strong> furniture construction, including both case goods <strong>and</strong> upholstery.<br />

FABRICS AND MATERIALS<br />

In this introduction to textiles, you’ll study the strengths <strong>and</strong> weaknesses <strong>of</strong> different fibers, both<br />
natural <strong>and</strong> synthetic. You’ll discuss how to coordinate fabrics by scale, color, texture, <strong>and</strong> pattern.<br />
In the first session, you’ll focus on textiles <strong>and</strong> fibers, <strong>and</strong> in the second session you’ll look at<br />
drapery terms <strong>and</strong> window treatments.<br />

SOURCING VINTAGE ITEMS<br />
Taught by Barbara Vail<br />
Buying vintage pieces <strong>and</strong> antiques can be a thrilling yet overwhelming task. In this session, you’ll<br />
walk through the ins <strong>and</strong> outs <strong>of</strong> researching, buying, selling <strong>and</strong> incorporating vintage pieces<br />
into your home; how to find a flea market or estate sale; <strong>and</strong> how to prepare before you arrive.<br />
The course will provide an overview <strong>of</strong> where to find the best pieces, what to look for, how to talk<br />
to dealers <strong>and</strong> when to trust your gut or walk away. You’ll also discuss how to incorporate vintage<br />
items flawlessly in your space.<br />

strategies. You’ll hear from an established interior design pr<strong>of</strong>essional with tips <strong>and</strong> tricks for creating a successful<br />
interior design business.<br />
