What Is the true meaning of
Christmas
Christmas truly is one of the most wonderful times of
the year. For many, there are warm parties, cozy
homes, fond traditions to celebrate, and gifts to be
shared. It’s a joyous time of celebration. However,
sometimes we get lost in the season and forget the
reason we celebrate it, to begin with. Among the
hustle and bustle, our focus is lost and priorities are
misaligned.
Most people can tell you the origins of Christmas -
that it’s a remembrance of the birth of Christ. But
either that’s the extent of their knowledge or they
lose sight of this in the busyness of the holiday. Why
do we truly celebrate Christmas? Not Santa Claus, or
the Christmas tree, or any other of the various
traditions wrapped up into Christmas. Why do we
celebrate this occasion - what is its true meaning?
The Birth of Jesus and Meaning of Christmas
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the
government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name
shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of
his government and of peace there will be no end, on
the throne of David and over his kingdom, to
establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness from this time
forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts
will do this.” -Isaiah 9:6-7

For thousands of years mankind waited for the
coming of Christ; they longed for their King to arrive
and free them from oppression. The Old Testament
is full of prophecies, including this one from Isaiah 9.
The Bible is full of Scripture pointing directly to the
One who would save mankind from their sins. When
Isaiah described His coming, he described His
coming as an infant. But this child would grow and
establish a Kingdom of righteousness forevermore.
When we celebrate Christmas, we are celebrating
the moment in history when prophecy was fulfilled.
God came to be with us.
Celebrating Christmas and Salvation in Jesus
Because when Jesus came, he also left us with the gift of salvation. His birth is significant because of His
death. For thirty-three years Jesus lived a life free from sin so that He could be the perfect sacrificial
lamb for the atonement of our sins. On Calvary, Christ paid the price and overcame death so that we
could have victory over sin and condemnation. So, when that precious baby was born and placed in the
manger, it wasn’t just another birth. It was the beginning of God’s redemptive plan for humanity. An act
He didn’t have to take part in but He chose to out of love.
“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very
nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he
made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being
found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a
cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and
every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:5-11

True Meaning for
Celebrating Christmas
This very act of humility and his choice to die on the cross is cause for bowed knees and
lifted hands. I know the busyness of the season can cause time to fly and before we know
it, the holiday has passed and we have forgotten to celebrate why we are celebrating it in
the first place. But don’t get sidetracked—get perspective. Choose reverence and give
honor where honor is due.
Take time this holiday season to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas by glorifying the
One who gave it all. A child was born in humble circumstances and his sacrificial death
reflected the same, however, both were significant for humanity. Without the death of
Christ, salvation isn’t possible. So without His birth, neither is it possible. Jesus coming to
Earth that night changed everything and it’s a moment we should celebrate with all our
hearts.
Certainly, enjoy the parties and food and gifts, but don’t forget to point your heart, family,
and those around you to Christmas' true meaning: Christ came with a plan for our
redemption.

Bible
Verses about
the Meaning of

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his
name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ~ Isaiah
9:6

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not
perish but have eternal life. ~ John 3:16

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only
Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. ~ John 1:14

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with
whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. ~ James 1:17
This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about : His mother Mary was pledged to be married to
Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Because
Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he
had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to
him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife,
because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give
him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what
the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will
call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”). When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the
Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he did not consummate their marriage
until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus. ~ Matthew 1:18-25

Christmas Fruit Cake
Recipe
METHOD
The day before you intend to bake the cake, measure
out the brandy and port, into a large saucepan.
Then add the cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, dried fruits, mixed peel,
nuts and zest’s. Now stir and bring the mixture up to
simmering point, then, keeping the heat low, simmer very
gently for 10 minutes. After that allow everything to cool then
pour the mixture into an airtight plastic container and leave it in
a cool place overnight. Remember to take the butter out of the
fridge so it will soften.
When you are ready to bake the cake, pre-heat the oven to
140°C, gas mark 1.
All you do is measure out the flour, sugar and softened butter
into a very large mixing bowl then add the eggs and with an
electric whisk, beat until everything is evenly blended. (Use a
wooden spoon if you don’t have an electric whisk). Now use a
large metal spoon to gradually fold in the fruit mixture until it’s
all evenly distributed. Then spoon the mixture into the
prepared tin, levelling the surface with the back of the spoon.
Finally cover the top of the cake with a double square of
parchment paper with a 50p-size hole in the centre (this gives
extra protection during the long slow cooking).
Bake the cake in the centre of the oven for 4 hours until it feels
springy in the centre when lightly touched. Cool the cake for
45 minutes in the tin, then remove it to a wire rack to finish
cooling. When it’s completely cold, wrap in double greaseproof
paper and then foil and store in an airtight tin or polythene box.
This cake eats very well as it is but if your want to use some of
the brandy from your storecupboard, you can ‘feed’ it by
making small holes in the top and bottom with a cocktail stick
and spoon in a couple of tablespoons of brandy then it wrap it
in double baking parchment and foil or store in an airtight tin.
You can now ‘feed’ it at weekly intervals until you eat it as it is
or ice it.
INGREDIENTS
4 tablespoons brandy
4 tablespoons port
½ teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
good pinch salt
300g (11oz) raisins
250g (9oz) currants
250g (9oz) sultanas
75g (3oz) chopped mixed peel
10g (½ oz) almonds, chopped (skin-on)
½ orange zest
½ lemon zest
175g (6oz) self-raising flour, sifted
175g (6oz) soft-dark brown sugar
175g (6oz) butter, softened
4 medium eggs
EQUIPMENT
You will need a 20 cm round cake tin, greased and lined with a double
thickness of baking parchment. Tie a band of brown paper round the
outside of the tin for extra protection.

Beef rib roast, mushrooms, red onion and horseradish jam
INGREDIENTS
200g each Swiss brown and button mushrooms, chopped
125g shiitake mushrooms, chopped
80g unsalted butter
1/2 bunch tarragon, finely chopped
2 cups (500ml) red wine
1 bunch cavolo nero, stalks removed and discarded, leaves shredded
5kg (6-cutlet) French-trimmed beef rib roast
Wholegrain mustard, to serve
RED ONION AND HORSERADISH JAM
80g unsalted butter
3 red onions, thinly sliced
1/2 cup (110g) brown sugar
2 tbs balsamic vinegar
3cm piece fresh horseradish, grated
METHOD
1.Place mushrooms in a food processor and whiz until finely chopped. Place
butter in a medium saucepan over high heat. Add mushroom and cook,
stirring frequently, for 5-6 minutes until softened and reduced in size. Stir in
tarragon and wine and bring to the boil. Reduce heat to medium and simmer,
stirring occasionally, for 25-30 minutes until wine is completely reduced. Stir
through shredded cavolo nero and cook, stirring frequently, for a further 5-6
minutes until cavolo nero has wilted. Season to taste, transfer to a bowl and
cool completely.
2.Meanwhile, for the red onion and horseradish jam, place the butter in a
medium saucepan over high heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring
occasionally, for 5-6 minutes or until onion begins to soften. Stir in the brown
sugar and vinegar. Reduce heat to low and cook, stirring occasionally for
20-25 minutes until a thick jam consistency. Remove from the heat, season to
taste, stir through horseradish and cool completely. Once cooled, transfer
jam to mushroom mixture and stir well to combine.
3.Preheat oven to 220°C. Cut 10 pieces of kitchen string long enough to wrap
around the beef. To prepare the beef rib roast, place beef on a chopping
board, rib-side down. Using a sharp knife, cut the meat from the bottom,
slicing lengthwise across the beef, leaving the rib side intact so that it
butterflies open like a book. Spread stuffing evenly in the middle of the beef,
then close and secure, tying kitchen string in between and on either side of
each rib. Place beef rib on a wire rack on the middle shelf and roast for 1 hour
15 minutes for medium or until cooked to your liking. Remove from oven and
rest, covered loosely with foil, for 15-20 minutes before carving. Serve with
wholegrain mustard alongside

TRADITIONAL ENGLISH TRIFLE
METHOD
INGREDIENTS
It’s best to start this with the filling, so slice the sponges in
half lengthways, spread one half with jam and place the
original half back on top.
Cut each one into three mini sandwiches, and place these
sideways up in the bowl (they should all fit into a single layer).
Now stab them with a small knife and carefully and slowly
pour the Madeira over all of them. Then leave on one side so
the sponges will absorb the liquid. Place the cream in a pan
over a gentle heat and heat it to just below simmering point,
stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon. While the cream is
heating, use a balloon whisk to whisk together the egg yolks,
sugar and cornflour mixture and the vanilla in a medium bowl
with a cloth underneath to steady it. Then, whisking the egg
mixture all the time with one hand, gradually pour the hot
cream into the bowl.
When it's all in, immediately return the whole lot back to the
saucepan using a rubber spatula. Now back it goes on to the
same gentle heat as you continue whisking until the custard is
thick and smooth, which will happen as soon as it reaches
simmering point. If you do overheat it and it looks grainy,
don't worry, just transfer it to a jug or bowl and continue to
whisk until it becomes smooth again.
Pour the custard into a jug or bowl, cover the surface with
clingfilm and leave to cool. You can also watch how to make
custard in our Cookery School Video. To assemble the trifle,
tip the bowl from side to side to make sure all the Madeira
has soaked into the sponges, the peel and slice the bananas.
Then scatter the raspberries over the sponges and press them
down with a fork to release their juices then scatter the
bananas over the raspberries. Now pour the custard all over.
Finally whip the cream till thick, spoon it over and spread it
around, and scatter the almonds over it all.
For the custard:
425ml double cream
4 large egg yolks
25g golden caster sugar
1 level dessertspoon cornflour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the filling:
5 trifle sponges
150ml Sercial Madeira (or dry sherry)
2 tablespoons seedless raspberry jam
275g fresh or frozen raspberries
2 medium sized bananas
For the topping:
275ml double cream
50g toasted flaked almonds
EQUIPMENT
A 1.75 litre capacity trifle bowl
Cover the bowl with clingfilm and chill until needed

“Lee is ‘n ongelooflike
Niks Meer Oor Is bekend.
grootgeword. Haar ouer broer, Zian gee al vir 2 jaar lank skool in Vietnam en is haar grootste
ondersteuner. “Albei my ouers
streef – lekker jonk, funky, saamsing musiek.
“Shoot for the moon – if you miss, you’ll end up in the stars”.

“Christmas is the spirit
of giving without a
thought of getting”.

GARDEN WORLD
Youngsters and Summer Holidays in the Garden
The children are at home and are looking for some outdoor activities to occupy their time. What better way than to spend some
good quality family hours in the garden.
The ‘snag’ however is that there is always an element of work connected to the final reward and this may put a damper on the
eagerness of spending time ‘working’ outdoors. The idea then, to boost their enthusiasm, is to give the kids ownership of the
project. Billy’s Beans and Broccoli on a sign or Violet’s Family Vegetables, is an easy first step in the right direction. The most
important involvement from us parents is to work together with our children, teaching by show and tell.
Keep the garden projects simple and easy to achieve with uncomplicated designs such as wagon wheels or a checkerboard of
bright colours incorporating both vegetables and herbs. Add a pathway and perhaps a bird bath or feeder. For sowing seeds
use quick germinating varieties such as marigolds and alyssum and for the vegetables use lettuce, spinach, onions, and
carrots – no brussels sprouts; definitely no brussels sprouts. An early successful reward will give children the confidence to
not only persevere, but to try their hand at more challenging projects.
There are so many small, quick, and easy ideas. Plant butter beans in the soil as well as a few under cotton wool and as the
seeds germinate, show your child what is happening under-ground with the root emerging first and then the first green
leaves. Sunflowers and Mielies are always fun to plant and as the stems grow taller monitor this growth against the height of
your kids. Vegetables are a must, the idea then being that we are enjoying a salad courtesy of Billy with the beautiful, flowers
from Violet’s Garden making up the diner table’s center piece.
Grow bulbs in a bowl filled with colourful gravel or marbles. Remove the tops from pineapples, carrots, or parsnips together
with a slice of the fruit and skin. Place this onto a loose compost mix. Keep moist and in a warm place. A new plant will grow
out in six to eight weeks. An avocado pip supported over a glass of water with three toothpicks (the bottom of the pip just
touching the water) will grow roots in five to six weeks with the leaves emerging soon thereafter.
Miniature gardens are fun to design in low, flat trays. Use small plants, moss, and ferns. A small piece of mirror can be used to
represent a pond with small pebbles for rocks. Make a beetle trap to hang in the fruit trees. A jar or tin filled with very your
fruit.
Collect, dry sweet water and a red food dye will attract the beetles and fruit fly away from and crush eggshells to scatter
around those plants most favoured by snails. The sharp edges of the eggshells will prevent these pests from getting near your
plants. Make a scarecrow, theme the garden, collect and press flowers and make herbal teas and scented sachets.

Not only will the children be having fun but the potential for learning is immeasurable. Digging, planting, watering, fertilizing
and upkeep of the plants; safety issues with tools and fertilizers; counting and measuring skills with seed spacing and
walkways; reading skills with planting instructions; all in the garden classroom.
Be creative, let the learning be hands on, be there to help and invite all questions. Fill those young minds with a love and
appreciation of all things green and enjoy the family time together.
“Kersfees kom! Kersfees kom!! Gee aan God die eer! Skenk ons ‘n helder Somerkersfees in
hierdie land, o Heer!”
Wat ‘n wonderlike tyd van die jaar..! Begin Desember begin ons Adventtyd! Gewoonlik steek

Kersfees so mooi geword het:
woning.
Groete
HOW TO MAKE A
CHRISTMAS
WREATH

How to Make a Christmas Wreath
What’s the Project? Need a great holiday craft project? This tutorial on how to make a
Christmas wreath will have you making a beautiful DIY Christmas wreath that’s perfect to
fit your taste, looks great on your door, and is fun to make!
You could totally tweak this to be whatever you want. You can use any colors, any type of
ornaments or accents. Make this what you would like! But have fun making it.
Supplies Needed:

Weeping Willow Wreath Form (I used a 15 inch one but any size will work)
Snowflake Ornaments
Ball Ornaments (I used red and silver, use any color you’d like)
Greenery
Red berries
White snow accents
Silver accents
Wire cutters
Hot glue gun and hot glue
Ribbon to hang it with

WREATH MAKING INSTRUCTIONS:
Start out by cutting pieces of your greenery up and
sticking them throughout the wreath in some places.
Then add other accents from there. Figure out where on
your Christmas wreath you would like to put your main
ornaments (like my snowflake ones). Once you have a
general feel for where you want things placed, begin hot
gluing them in place.
Then, begin adding your ball ornaments. Be careful here
to make sure you get a good balance in what you are
doing. You don’t want to totally overdo it but you want to
make sure it looks fairly full.
Make sure you’ve got greenery and berries and other
accents showing through here and there. As you make
your wreath, continually take a step back and look at it to
see where it might need more of something and add it in
as needed.
When you feel like you’ve got it how you want it, add your
ribbon to the top so that you can hang it.

WIE IS EK REGTIG?
.
In sy boek “Outwitting the Devil” skryf Napoleon Hill: “I repeat that I do not know what
this ‘other self’ is, but I know enough about it to lean upon it in a spirit of absolute faith in
times of difficulty. When the ordinary reasoning faculty of my mind seems to be inadequate
for my needs.”
veral in Amerika.
Wie is ek dan regtig? Het ek wel twee persoonlikhede? ‘n Ego – ek self (bewussyn) en ‘n
alter-ego (onderbewussyn). In
gesondheid, ensovoorts? Inteendeel, dis waar die grys area lê. Wie of wat sterf af as ek
Jesus volg?
Waar pas vrees dan nou in?
of selfs vrees vir my eie dood.

faal sit op my alter-ego se troon.
Ek is so gebore!
Geensins. Is dit moontlik? Besluit jy self!

RAINBOW ROSES
The Origins of Rainbow Roses
These brightly colored blossoms are the result of some very clever work by a
Dutch grower named Peter Van de Werken. Looking to expand the market
demand for cut flowers, Van de Werken and his colleagues began experimenting
with developing new colors of roses, chrysanthemums, carnations, and a few
other flowers. They began with white flowers and initially tried simply spraying the
dye on the petals, the way they do with blue poinsettias, but the results were less
than satisfactory. Then Van de Werken came up with the idea of having the
flowers take up dye through their vascular systems.
Getting dye to absorb its way up the flower stem and out to the petals is not an
easy task. For starters, most dyes contain molecules that are too large to work
their way out to the delicate petals. Introducing a foreign substance into a plant
also has the potential of harming it. However, after much trial and error, special
dyes made from plant extracts succeeded in changing the petal colors vividly
enough to make it worthwhile.
Initially, the roses were dyed a single unusual color by immersing the stem in a
container of dye. Creating the rainbow effect requires an even more complicated
process, which Van de Werken’s company is closely guarding and trying to patent.
Can You Grow Rainbow Roses?
Perhaps you’ve seen rainbow rose seeds for sale that promise to grow into
brightly multicolored roses. Unfortunately, rainbow roses need to be created, not
grown. As mentioned, rainbow roses are not the result of crossing two different
colored roses, and even if they were, hybrid plants do not grow true to seed until
they have been stabilized.

Instead of relying on these seeds, color roses yourself for much better results.
You may not get the vivid colors Van de Werken produced because his team isn't
releasing the details of the dye or the procedure, but since the method here is
basically osmosis, you will be able to make a reasonable facsimile.
Tip:
Try coloring other flowers in addition to roses to create a lovely rainbow bouquet.
White mums and carnations are said to be even better at taking the dye than
roses.
What You'll Need
Equipment / Tools
• Sharp blade or knife
• Narrow glass containers, bud vases, or test tubes
• Plastic bags (optional)
• Rubber bands (optional)
Materials
• White roses
• Food coloring dyes
• Water
Instructions
1. Choose Your Roses
Start with as many white roses as you'd like to use. Choose roses where the buds
are just starting to open. If the buds are too tight, they may never open, and if the
flowers have already unfurled, they will not have sufficient time to absorb the dye
before they start to fade.
2. Shorten the Stems
Make a fresh cut in each stem. If you have long stem roses, shorten the stems to
about 8 to 12 inches, so the dye does not have to travel so far.
3. Divide Each Stem Vertically
Using a sharp blade or knife, divide each stem into vertical sections, one section for
each color. Cut about 3 inches up each stem. Don’t make more than three to four
sections in each stem or the flowers will be too fragile to survive.
4. Prepare Food Coloring
Mix your dyes using food coloring and water. Use a good amount of dye (10 to 12
drops) so that the pigment will be saturated enough to really color the petals.
To get the full rainbow, use red, blue, and yellow dyes. They will probably mix a bit
on their way up each stem, creating the full rainbow effect and making each rose a
little bit different.

5. Place Roses into Dye
Each color dye will go into its own narrow container, such as bud vases or test
tubes. Place sections of each stem into the different containers. Be gentle when
bending the stem sections apart as you place them into separate containers. Try not
to leave them exposed to air and drying out for more than a few minutes.
You could also use plastic bags filled with dye and attach one to each stem section
with rubber bands. That way you can stand roses up in a single larger container.
That will minimize the bending of the cut stem sections.
6. Store Roses Away From Sun
You are going to need to leave each stem section in the dye mixture for several
days.
Place the roses out of direct sunlight while they are absorbing the dye. The cut flow
ers are already under stress, and extreme heat or light will weaken them further.
7. Keep Roses Hydrated
Now be patient. You may notice the petals changing color within a couple of hours,
but leaving them in the dye for up to a week will result in the most dramatic colors.
Make sure the roses are not left sitting in dry containers once the water/dye solution
is all absorbed.
8. Finish Trimming the Stems
Once the desired effect is obtained, you can cut off the split section of the stems and
place your roses in a vase of fresh, room temperature water and enjoy.

10 Beach Safety Tips for Your Summer Vacation
Summer vacation often means spending a week enjoying the sand and surf at the beach.
While it may seem like “a day at the beach” is all sunshine and happiness, there are some
hidden dangers to avoid. When planning your summer trip to the shore, make sure you
consider beach safety as part of your preparation, especially if you aren’t familiar with the
beach you’re traveling to.
Here’s our list of beach safety tips:
1. Slather on the sunscreen – Nothing ruins a beach trip faster than a sunburn on day one. Make
sure you get to enjoy the sun every day of your vacation by coating yourself and the kids in a
generous coating of high SPF sunblock. And reapply after lunch – especially if you’ve been
swimming.
2. Protect your feet - A long walk on the beach is a great way to spend a dreamy romantic evening.
But rough and rocky coastline can wreak havoc on your bare feet. An easy beach safety solution is
to pack a pair of reef shoes for everyone in order to prevent cuts and scrapes from broken coral,
shattered glass, unexpected tide pools and other sand hazards.
3. Swimming safety – Spending the day in the surf is a real blast! From boogie boarding to
snorkeling, there are so many ways to have fun in the ocean. But the open water requires a certain
respect. One of the most important beach safety tips is to encourage everyone in your group to
swim with caution. Flotation devices are no substitute for knowing how to swim – don’t get in the
ocean without lessons.
4. Beach security – Are you wondering if your strip of sand
will include a lifeguard? Before you travel, look into
whether or not your beach trip includes the reassurance of
a certified lifeguard. The Beach Patrol is trained to watch
for and warn beachgoers of riptides and other dangerous
swimming conditions as well as jellyfish and other
stinging creatures.
5. Watch the weather – When you book your trip months in
advance, you may have the unlucky timing to arrive on
the same day as a weather disaster. With rain comes storm
water runoff that often leads to contaminated water at the beach that you’ll want to avoid. Also,
keep an eye out for high surf advisories.

6. Worst-case scenario – Although occurrences are uncommon, you don’t want to be the one who
knows what it’s like to deal with a jellyfish or stingray attack. Pay attention to local news reports
and ask surfers and sailors for details on what’s waiting for you in the water. No one wants to con
sider that an accident might happen to them, but buying travel insurance is a smart move just in
case. Under certain circumstances, travel insurance can provide reimbursement for medical
assistance or even evacuation if your beach vacation takes a turn for the worst.
7. Drink the right liquids – Keep everyone hydrated with plenty of water and avoid alcohol. In
addition to becoming dangerously dehydrated, drinking booze at the beach can impair your
judgement just when you need it most.
8. Look out below – Many beaches that cater to tourists feature cliffs with stunning vistas. These are
beautiful spots to look out from, but they can be dangerous. One wrong step could mean a serious
fall, and falling rock means being below them can be even more hazardous. Lifeguards warn that
“even just a softball-sized rock can be devastating falling from a 50-foot cliff.”
9. Wildlife warning – While part of the allure of ocean swimming is the chance to see aquatic
animals in the wild, remember to keep your distance. Watching a sea turtle feeding is a bucket list
moment – don’t ruin it by trying to touch its shell or disturb its routine. Purple or blue flags
indicate jellyfish or other dangerous wildlife. If you are stung, visit a lifeguard or seek medical
help immediately.
10. Riptides are real - Hidden dangers like rough surf, undertow and rip currents can quickly turn an
afternoon paddle into a serious incident. Take a few minutes to watch a video of a riptide, learn to
spot the signs and refresh the water safety skills of any weak swimmers in your group.
