<strong>and</strong> posted on-line. Your assistance would be greatly<br />

BUCKEYE NETWORK<br />

To a recent graduate, nothing is more important than<br />

the advice of fellow alumni. This is why the Buckeye<br />

Network is being created by the <strong>Alumni</strong> Association<br />

<strong>and</strong> Career Exploration Office: as a professional career<br />

contact system that links graduates by harnessing the<br />

broad scope of the Ohio State alumni universe. This<br />

searchable database of alumni volunteers is the first of<br />

its kind at Ohio State. Importantly, this is not simply a<br />

listing of alumni in select fields or cities, but is a<br />

database of those who have agreed to serve as career<br />

contacts by registering their own career information<br />

online.<br />

This type of networking resource is important, whether<br />

an alumnus is in the job market for the first time or<br />

making the transition from one career to another.<br />

NEWS<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Alumni</strong> Association is asking successful <strong>Alumni</strong><br />

Association members to register as a career contact.<br />

Simply visit www.ohiostatealumni.org, <strong>and</strong> follow the<br />

links to the Buckeye Network. You will go through a<br />

quick, three-step registration process to enter your<br />

contact information (note: having your <strong>Alumni</strong><br />

Association membership card or current Ohio State<br />

<strong>Alumni</strong> Magazine h<strong>and</strong>y will facilitate the process).<br />

Those conducting a search on the Buckeye Network<br />

will be able to locate alumni by career category or by<br />

city/geographic region. Users may also search based on<br />

career stage, by special interest category, or by<br />

college/school. Career contacts themselves may<br />

indicate whether they are in a position to offer<br />

internships or willing to help the user to find<br />

employment. All of these features will make the<br />

Buckeye Network an indispensable career search tool.<br />

<strong>The</strong> key is to build a strong alumni database, <strong>and</strong> your<br />

registration will help. <strong>The</strong> goal is to promote the<br />

Buckeye Network as a viable career service with a<br />

listing of several thous<strong>and</strong> alumni who are willing to<br />

provide their advice!<br />

PROFESSOR BARBARA WYSLOUZIL<br />

Barbara Wyslouzil joined the Department as an<br />

Associate Professor in October 2003. Prior to joining<br />

the Ohio State University, Dr. Wyslouzil was an<br />

Assistant/Associate Professor at Worcester Polytechnic<br />

Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts for 10 years. Her<br />

work experience also includes several years of contract<br />

research at Physical Sciences Inc. in Andover, MA, <strong>and</strong><br />

six years of research – primarily in the heavy oil field –<br />

at the Alberta Research Council, in Edmonton, Alberta.<br />

Her research accomplishments have been recognized by<br />

the NSF with a Faculty Early Career Development<br />

(CAREER) award in 1995, by the WPI Board of<br />

Trustees who awarded her the 2001 Trustees’ Award<br />

for Outst<strong>and</strong>ing Research <strong>and</strong> Creative Scholarship, <strong>and</strong><br />

by the American Association for Aerosol Research who<br />

awarded her the 2002 Kenneth T. Whitby Award for<br />

outst<strong>and</strong>ing contributions to aerosol science <strong>and</strong><br />

technology by a beginning scientist.
