<strong>2021</strong> FLORIDA THEATRE CONFERENCE FESTIVAL<br />
On behalf of the <strong>FTC</strong> Board of Directors we thank you for participating in the <strong>2021</strong> Florida<br />
Theatre Conference. We want your stay in Winter Haven to be creative and inspiring.<br />
Should you need information not included in this program, please visit the registration desk<br />
in the AdventHealth Fieldhouse.<br />
POLICIES & PROCEDURES<br />
The Florida Theatre Conference strives to make each Festival a rewarding, educational,<br />
and artistic experience for all who participate. In order to ensure a quality experience<br />
for each individual, group, organization and guest, the Board of Directors requires all<br />
attendees to abide by the adopted policies:<br />
All groups, organizations, individulas and guests<br />
• must check in at the registration desk before participating in Festival events.<br />
• must observe the rules and regulations of AdventHealth Fieldhouse & Conference<br />
Center and Theatre Winter Haven.<br />
• must observe the laws of the host city, Winter Haven and the State of Florida.<br />
• must observe the Festival hotel/motel regulations.<br />
• understand that failure to observe the policies stated above will disqualify any<br />
registered attendee(s) from all Festival events and result in the forfeiture of all monies<br />
paid to <strong>FTC</strong>. Under certain circumstances, as determined by the Board of Directors,<br />
groups, organizations, individuals and guests may be disqualified from future<br />
Festivals.<br />

STATEMENT OF CENSORSHIP<br />
The Florida Theatre Conference supports a policy permitting the widest possible range of<br />
dramatic material be performed at its Festival. Performing organizations are expected to<br />
exercise good taste, good judgment, and respect the values of other organizations and the<br />
audiences for which it is performed.<br />

High School One-Act Festival Adjudicators<br />
Jeremy Henry-Dixon (HD) is ecstatic to be working alongside such an<br />
incredible array of adjudicators for the <strong>2021</strong> Florida Theatre Conference.<br />
Jeremy is a local director, actor and high school theatre educator. HD enjoys<br />
splitting his time between Theatre Winter Haven as a performer and director,<br />
and Davenport High School where he is the theatre director and fine arts chai .<br />
Jeremy lives in Winter Haven with his husband, Will; daughter, Madison; and<br />
two pups, Duncan and Willow.<br />
Elena Maria Garcia is an Assistant Professor of Theatre at Barry University.<br />
She has dedicated the past 30 years to education in the Arts through acting,<br />
improvisation and performance. Elena earned her B.F.A from the University of<br />
Florida and her M.F.A from Florida Atlantic University. Soon after graduating<br />
Elena pursued her craft in children’s theatre (Florida Stage) and traveled the<br />
East coast for five years while honing her improvisational skills. She was one<br />
of the founders of the first all female improv troupe, Big Purse and Matching<br />
Shoes, created the improv troupe Separate Checks and Quien Sigue A<br />
Quien, the first short form Spanish only speaking improv troupe in the US.<br />
During this time, Elena began working in front of the camera appearing in<br />
several national commercials<br />
Kristofer Geddie a North Carolina native, trekked to Florida from New York<br />
city to play “Coalhouse Walker” in Ragtime at Venice Theatre, and never<br />
left. He is currently the Director of Diversity and General Manager. Kris<br />
holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from Mars Hill University, is currently enrolled<br />
in graduate school at Goucher College for a Masters in Arts Administration<br />
and has been seen numerous times on stage at Venice Theatre. In addition<br />
to Kris’ duties at Venice Theatre, he serves on the Ambassador Circle<br />
for Embracing our Differences, is the treasurer of the Florida Theatre<br />
Conference, the Florida State community theatre representative and is thrilled<br />
to serve as a Board Member of the Friends of the Venice Public Library and<br />
American Association of Community Theatre.<br />

Leah Page is an Assistant Professor of Theatre at Flagler College in St<br />
Augustine, FL. She arrived in St Augustine six years ago from New York<br />
City, where she worked as a teaching artist and director. Her primary<br />
areas of interest are devised theatre, theatre for young audiences, and<br />
arts integration. Leah has worked at a number of regional theaters and<br />
community-based organizations across the country including Asolo<br />
Repertory Theatre, Two River Theater, McCarter Theater Center, viBe<br />
Theater Experience, Making Books Sing, and CAT Youth Theatre. Some of<br />
her favorite directing experiences include Sideways Stories from Wayside<br />
School (Daytona Stage College), The Giver (Flagler College), Edges (Flagler<br />
College) and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Limelight<br />
Theatre). She has an MA in Applied Theatre from CUNY and an MFA in<br />
Muscial Theatre from UCF.<br />
Middle School and Youth Theatre Festival Respondents<br />
Katie Combs has been writing, directing and producing young adult<br />
and children’s shows for over 25 years. Her published works include<br />
screenplays, full musicals for live theatre, and commercial songs. She<br />
currently runs a non-profit that teaches young artists the application of<br />
performing arts principle, as well as guiding students to find, prepare, and<br />
participate in professional opportunities. Katie is a member of Vocology in<br />
Practice, an organization that stays on the cutting edge of vocal science<br />
and technique. Her voice clients include Broadway professionals, voice over<br />
artists, and singers of all ages and genres.<br />
Bethany Post (she/her) is a performer, teacher, and advocate for the arts<br />
with a wealth of teaching and performing experience, having traveled across<br />
the country with Missoula Children’s Theatre and National Theatre for<br />
Children. She relocated from Little Rock to attend UCF, where she served as<br />
a company actor and teaching artist with the Arkansas Arts Center Children’s<br />
Theatre and most recently as the Education Coordinator with the Arkansas<br />
Repertory Theatre. She uses music and movement as foundational<br />
inspiration, and you will likely hear her singing while passing in the hallway.<br />

While their soldiers have been away at war, the community of Messina has learned to lean on each<br />
other for support. The intrepid (and self-appointed) Neighborhood Watch are young scouts, led by<br />
troupe leader Dogberry--and scout surveillance is at high alert. As the neighborhood’s war heroes<br />
Benedick, Claudio, and Don Pedro return home, they have to renegotiate their place on the block.<br />
While young Hero and Claudio immediately fall in love, quick witted Benedick and Beatrice need a<br />

Every actor/singer wants to get the most out of their voice. It’s not uncommon to want a certain<br />
sound but fail to achieve it. Perhaps your plan for the sound is not working because you need a<br />
better understanding of how the voice works, particular to the sound you are after. This workshop will<br />
suggest reliable solutions, seated in voice science, to help the actor/singer achieve their goals.<br />

How do we take an everyday item from ordinary to extraordinary? By transforming it into a puppet of<br />
course! An original puppet of your own can easily be created from everyday objects and materials<br />
around you. This participatory workshop will explore the ways in which we identify with and find<br />
meaning in objects, and the symbolism, character and relationships that can be unearthed within<br />
everyday items! Walk away with a series of manipulation techniques to create an original puppet of<br />
your very own!<br />
