and daily specials to enjoy indoors or on the patio.
Martin’s BBQ Joint (JI) 1622 Highland Ave, 790-
0838. Pit masters come in at 5 a.m. every morning at
this James Island location and smoke a whole hog for 20
hours over hickory hardwood coals. In addition to pulled
pork, beef and chicken, Martin’s serves up delicious
smoked wings and brisket, and Southern sides and pies
are made in-house. An outdoor area and lively bar has
cornhole games. Open daily 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. and until
10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
Melvin’s Barbecue (MP) 925 Houston Northcutt Blvd,
843-795-6794. Founded by South Carolina’s Original
Family of Mustard Based BBQ, this small family
business was voted in 2021 Charleston’s Best BBQ!
Melvin’s BBQ cooks over all wood and slathers their
pork with their signature tangy sauce that gives South
Carolina’s BBQ its distinct authentic flavor. Along with
BBQ, Melvin’s burgers are one of Charleston’s best kept

Famed pit master Rodney Scott brings his awardwinning
BBQ to Charleston, with whole hog cooking to
a trendy, counter-service location on King Street. Sauce
is slathered on the hog while its cooking in a closelyheld
recipe. Options include piled-high plates and
sandwiches, ribs and more with classic sides like collards,
baked beans and fresh baked hand pies. Open daily 11
am. – 9 p.m.

tavern on Folly Beach has Irish entrees like bangers and
