English music came alive with its greatest 17th<br />
century composer Henry Purcell. Other English<br />
composers followed, leading to London residencies of<br />
Handel and Johann Christian Bach, the `London Bach’<br />
as he came to be known. We explore and celebrate<br />
England’s rich musical life of the time, in the company<br />
of the WSO Chamber Players.<br />

Brahms: String Sextet No. 2<br />
Mendelssohn: Octet for Strings<br />
A nurturing of intimacies, quiet reflection and rich<br />
fund of melody characterizes Brahms’ Second Sextet<br />
for Strings. The freshness of youth cloaked in genius<br />
sparked Mendelssohn’s Octet for Strings – miraculous<br />
music that sprung from the pen of the16-year old<br />
firebrand whose inspiration overflowed with wideeye<br />
wonder. Two masterworks, whose presence on<br />
the same program elevate each.<br />
