Year in Review
A Collective Effort for Texas
The statewide response from organizations committed to
ensuring that Texas has qualified workers was nothing short of
astounding. Every gift received facilitated TSTC’s progress to
rebuild the state’s economy.
Here, The TSTC Foundation recognizes standout organizations
that strengthened student success on multiple campuses
through gifts of scholarships or program equipment.
Southwest Aerospace Technologies donated a large inventory
of Global Express parts to TSTC’s Aircraft Airframe Technology,
Aircraft Powerplant Technology, Aircraft Pilot Training
Technology, and Avionics programs in Abilene, Harlingen and
Waco. The donation, valued at more than $6 million, included
a current in-service complete airframe’s worth of parts that
students can use in hands-on labs. The equipment means that
students can continue to become the best technicians they
can be in great-paying jobs.
A grant of $715,742 awarded by the Greater Texas
Foundation advanced TSTC’s effort to implement a
performance-based education (PBE) model for nine programs
over a three-year span. Funds were dedicated to hiring
instructional designers who will build curriculum for each
program, allowing students flexibility in their pursuit to master
competencies.
“Performance-based education pathways allow students to
build on their existing knowledge and complete credentials
without putting the rest of their lives on hold,” said Sue
McMillin, president and chief executive officer of the
Greater Texas Foundation. “We are proud to support TSTC
in developing these pathways to extend postsecondary
opportunities to more Texas students.”
The Texas Mutual Insurance Co.’s $150,000 donation allowed
students the chance to learn technical skills quickly and
receive assistance to ease life’s burdens.
“We have a deep commitment to building a stronger, safer
Texas, and through our partnerships with organizations across
the state, we’re able to deliver on that commitment,” said
Jeremiah Bentley, vice president of marketing and community
affairs at Texas Mutual. “These partnerships help us keep our
finger on the pulse when needs arise in our communities.”
Vistra, an Irving-based company that specializes in retail
electricity and power generation, donated $100,000 to
establish an annual Vistra scholarship, endowed Vistra
scholarship and Vistra sponsorship fund for students in select
programs.
“Our hope is that these scholarships are the support TSTC
students need to cross the finish line—not just the dollars for
tuition, but the knowledge that we, as a company, believe in
their success,” said Curt Morgan, president and chief executive
officer of Vistra. “The events of the past year have only
cemented my belief that equity in education, at every level, is
the strong foundation necessary to develop today’s students
into tomorrow’s professionals. ”
The aviation

well-trained
professionals
in a variety
of capacities,
including aircraft
maintenance.
