FMA students represented FMA in five case
competitions over the last two years: Duff &
Phelps’ YOUniversity Deal Challenge (two years),
the CFA Institute Research Challenge, and the
UGA Stock Pitch Competition (two years).
The 2020 – 2021 CFA team, included
students Jillian Colquitt, Lee Schuessler,
Maggie Richard, Preston Wise and Will
McColskey. This is an annual global
competition that provides students
with hands on mentoring and intensive
training in financial analysis using
analytical valuation, report writing and
presentations skills.
The event included 15 teams representing
universities across the Southeast and
took place virtually due to COVID.
Students worked on the project from
October to February.
The team’s final report consisted of
an in-depth analysis of Aflac with
quantitative and qualitative research to
supporting the team’s recommendation
placed on the equity.
“It’s good for the students to participate
in such a large-scale competition and
compete with other regional schools
such as Emory, Georgia, Georgia Tech,
and Georgia State. I’m so proud of our
students,” said Albert Wang, associate
professor in finance at Harbert College,
who also serves as the team’s faculty
advisor.
Jonathan Hu led the 2021 UGA Stock
Pitch Competition team of Stephen Sadie,
Finn Price, and Hannah Vines. They
chose to pitch the Walt Disney Company.
“This is a great way for younger members
to get introduced to equity research and
the analysis tools necessary for ASIF.”
Case competitions provide FMA students
with practical, hands-on application and
industry exposure, and students continue
to proudly represent our program at
regional and national competitions.
