• By Susan Sandys PATIENTS AT Christchurch Hospital’s Emergency Department are being streamed to reduce the chance of catching Covid-19 while they are there. The announcement comes as no new cases were reported in Christchurch yesterday for the fifth day in a row. There are still four active cases in quarantine. The Canterbury District Health Board’s chief executive Peter Bramley announced the new streaming strategy, as well as air flow system changes, this week. “Our ED has had changes made to its air flow systems and divided the waiting area into two sections to accommodate ‘red’ and ‘green’ stream patients,” Bramley said. This would reduce the chance of a person with undetected Covid-19 sharing their infection with others. The 75-year-old appeared in the district court on Tuesday over the death of motorcyclist Josh Broughan on March 6. Broughan died after colliding with a vehicle carrying a bridal party driven by O’Rourke as it entered the grounds of St Cuthbert’s Church in Governors Bay. O’Rourke, a former lawyer, represented himself. He was remanded on bail until his next appearance on December 21. City house prices still increasing Average house prices in Christchurch have outstripped Dunedin for the first time since 2019, when the Garden City’s market was stagnating. Values have increased an average of 31.9 per cent this year, the strongest on record according to property data and analytics provider CoreLogic. There was a 4.1 per cent hike in October, and 7.6 per cent over the last three months as the residential market continues to boom in the city. CoreLogic estimated the average property value in Christchurch is now $693,864, eclipsing Dunedin ($683,000) for the first time since November, 2019.
