Program Objectives: The Department of Theatre and Dance is committed to creating an
accessible, supportive environment and an educational experience that recognizes diversity and
cultural competence as integral components of academic excellence.
History: Theatre has been an integral part of the FAU experience since its founding in 1964 and
that tradition continues today. We endeavor to look at our students as individuals. As such, we
will consider your individual aspirations and goals as we help you become the best artist you
can be. We believe in a holistic approach to training that, regardless of specialty, requires some
practical study in all of the areas of theatre and dance production and our students are
encouraged to become involved in the creation of theatre and dance from their first day on
campus.
Facilities, Classrooms, and Theatres: The Department of Theatre and Dance is located in the
South Florida region in a vibrant and active theatre and film community. The department
produces 4-5 shows per year in the academic unit, two shows through the Summer Repertory
Theatre Program, and offers professional opportunities to faculty and students working closely
with the resident professional theatre company partner on campus, Theater LAB. The
department produces through our four theatre spaces, including a new renovated 500 seat
proscenium theatre, our 150-seat black box theatre, and two smaller 80 seat black box theatres.

Scholarships and/or Assistantships: The Department of Theatre & Dance offers scholarships
ranging from $100 to $5000.
