C M Y CM MY CY CMY K Performing Arts Acting Musical Theatre Dance Create Your Future Florida School of the Arts is a two-year AS or AA degree, conservatory-like setting that gives young artists immediate opportunities to perform in any of the eight major productions of the year as well as additional public performance events. Acting students engage in rigorous voice and body training through a comprehensive sequence of acting and speech classes, with additional studies in in movement training , script analysis, and theatre history. A combination of a strong foundation in vocal technique, music theory, acting and dance - ballet, modern, jazz and ballet, round out a comprehensive curriculum that prepares students for the next steps, whether it’s transfer to a Bachelors program or entry into the industry. All performing arts have an element of movement and the best fundamental education for movement is dance. Our dance program is a major in its own right but also an important support for students of musical theatre. The Dance program offers numerous opportunities for performance with choreographed segments of musical theatre products but also stand alone guest and student choreographed exhibitions every year. Technical Theatre and Stage Management To the great benefit of all discipline of performers and those who choose a career path in technical theatre or stage management, the many aspects concerning the support for the magic of theatre lies in the hands of the crew. All aspects of creating the setting and atmosphere of a theatrical production are realised through the costumes, sets, lighting, sound and organization of calling the cues that bring the show to life. History: Florida School of the Arts is Florida's first state supported art school set on the Palatka campus of St. Johns River State <strong>College</strong>. The program is in its 46th year with faculty who have worked in professional and academic arenas. Facilities, Classrooms, and Theatres: We currently operate two theatres: one small black box, which also functions as a classroom, and a 450-seat proscenium theatre. We also have two dance studios and fully equipped costume and scene shops. Scholarships and/or Assistantships: We currently offer several scholarships that are primarily tuition-waiver type. There are other cash-award type scholarships that are available throughout the year. 13
