SHADES OF ABSTRACT MOVEMENT
There is a magnificence to the animal portraits that Frank creates.
The style is painterly and unforgiving in its brushstrokes, the
compositions are powerful and commanding, whilst the colour
is unquestioning and forceful. Classical renditions of horses and
wildlife are given a fresh new lease of life through the use of
his innovative colour palettes. The unusual colourings give the
work an entirely contemporary aspect, which is only emphasized
by the abstract perspective that Frank employs. The abstraction
encourages the feeling of movement and emphasizes the
fleeting moments that he captures on canvas.
Following a career in graphic design, advertising and
filmmaking, Frank moved to the UK from South Africa and
started his career as a painter. "My career in film and advertising
was part of my artistic journey, and I am forever grateful for it
because it changed my perspective and the way I interpret my
subject material... I am now far more partial to material and
techniques that bring movement and depth of field into my
work, much as you would have in a film.”
