SMITH CORONA Born in Ohio, Frank Singleton studied history at Ohio State and philosophy at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He had little interest in art until after college he hitchhiked around Europe for a year and spent much of that time visiting art museums. His passion for typewriter art began on a holiday Thanksgiving in November, 1983. While waiting for a turkey to come out of the oven, he pulled out his old college typewriter—which is still in use today—and on impulse began typing designs. Singleton’s typework is in the permanent collection of the Perez Museum in Miami and the Sackner Archive in Iowa. His typework was prominently featured in the book The Art of Typewriting by Ruth and Marvin Sackner. 038
