Adapted cultures were preserving the use of
“pugon”, a traditional oven made from stone,
patronage of native delicacies such as bibingka,
budbud kamoteng kahoy, salbaro, pinisi, puto,
cassava balls, and others. Weaving mat, hat, and
basket for poultry and crops that represents the spirit
of Filipinos’ “bayanihan” and “pagkakaisa” (support to
each other and unity). Guba NHS together with the
community of Guba also participated in various
festival competitions such as “Kanglambat Festival”
of the Vallehermoso. The Festival portrayed the
Vallehermosoanon way of living where fishing was
the main source of income. As years passed by,
“Kanglambat” Festival was replaced with “Carabao
de Colores” Festival which portrays more on the
farmers of Vallehermoso since majority of
Vallehermosoanon were farmers.

Environmental Protection and Green Economy
Through the efforts of the principal, teachers, students, parents, Local and National
Officials, and Private Individuals, Guba NHS became one of the schools in the Division
of Guihulngan City to foster programs which aim to promote quality education while
embracing eco-friendly and sustainable practices. It has been the school’s custom to
include this aspect in every program implementation.

(PANGAMOT) Program, a banner program of
Guba NHS for Eco-Friendly and Sustainable
School allows every individual connected to the
school to be able to be aware, understand, and
become creative and innovative in utilizing
recyclable materials present in the school
campus and in the community. The main goal of
the program is to embrace environmental
awareness, respond based on what is needed to
be done, and initiate ways and actions to address
issues related to the environment through
reusing, reducing, recovering, and recycling.
Activities initiated with the program were
campaign and orientation, riverside clean-up
drives, tree planting, waste segregation and
recycling, and the like.
