ECO-FRIENDLY SCHOOL PROJECT

(Guba National High School)

Project Award Entry

ABSTRACT

On June 2003, Tagbino National High School -Guba Hi9gh School was established

It is a 28.8-kilometer ride from the center of the municipality and 15-kilometer ride from

Canlaon-Vallehermoso-La Carlota, negros Oriental route. The school started with one

classroom and three teachers led by the Teacher-In-Charge and now the Principal of the

school, Dr. Rolando S. Roa. It started with 24 students from which the first batch

graduated in year 2008. Later on, Tagbino National High School-Guba Annex became

independent and now known as Guba National High School.

Over the years, Guba NHS grew not only as an institution of Junior and Senior

High School Students but a home to the entire Gubanian – the people of Barangay Guba.

From scratch, muddy, and light materials, classrooms and school premises later on

developed and become conducive in learning. As time goes by additional teachers were

also installed in the school. Guba NHS aspire to strengthen the vision, mission and core

values of the Department of Education. “Makakalikasan” (Environmental) spirit, as one

of the components of DepEd core values, is embedded and strengthened in every

individual of the school. Hence the institution aspires to cater the needs of learners to be

equipped with knowledge and skills to become globally competent individuals.

Though the effort of the teachers, learners, parents, and all stakeholders, Guba

NHS became one of the recognized schools not just in the local but also in the region and

the national. On School Year 2017-2018, the school was recognized as the Negros Island

Region and Region VII Best Implementing School for Brigada sa Eskwela -Secondary

School- Medium Category. On the same year the school was also recognized as 4 th

Placer for the Provincial RRDCSC -Gulayan sa Paaralan Competition. On S.Y 2018-

2020, the school was recognized as National Best Implementing School for Brigada sa

Eskwela -Secondary School- Medium Category. It was also on the S.Y. 2018-2019 where

the school got the Regional Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)

“Sibol Award” and recognized as the Most Promising Eco-Friendly and Sustainable

School. School’s Nestlè Wellness Campus was also recognized as Best Implementing

School in the Division level. Provincial RRDCSC “Gulayan sa Paaralan” was again

recognized as 4 th placer for 2019 and on 2020, accelerate on the second spot. Gulayan

sa Paaralan Program, Brigada sa Eskwela, and Eco-Friendly and Sustainable School

again joined the search for S.Y. 2020-2021 and the first two programs got to be part of

the short-listed nominee. Joining such competitions will continue until inheritance of habits

will become everyone’s lifestyle.
