Oldest son of Kenneth Hansen, the most successful rallycross driver to date

with 14 FIA European Rallycross titles to his name, Timmy Hansen has gone on

to establish himself as a master of the discipline in his own right, reaching the

pinnacle by clinching both the Drivers’ and Teams’ crowns in dramatic fashion

at the 2019 season finale.

Despite his roots, Hansen began his motorsport career in karting and circuit

racing before focusing on rallycross in 2012 and progressing to the World RX in

2014 in his family team.

In 2016, Hansen was joined at Team Peugeot-Hansen by nine-time WRC

Champion Sebastien Loeb. Hansen entered into a fifth consecutive season with

the French manufacturer in 2018, but the first since Peugeot’s decision to take

its World RX effort in-house. His 2019 campaign was his most established,

recording four wins to clinch the Drivers and Teams Title, together with his

brother/teammate.

In 2020, Timmy scored one win and ended 3rd in overall standings. In 2021,

Timmy Hansen continues to race the Peugeot supercar and again is considered

as one of the title contenders.

Kevin Hansen, younger brother of Timmy Hansen and son of rallycross

legend Kenneth Hansen, started his career in karting in 2005 before

becoming World Champion in ROK Junior in 2010.

In 2015, he won the RX2 series before reaching the final at the sea- sonclosing

World RX of Argentina on his Supercar debut.

In 2016, Hansen moved up to Supercar full-time to contest the FIA

European Rallycross Championship where he dominated by winning

four out of the five events and becoming Euro RX Champion.

For 2017, Hansen made the next step by moving up to World RX to

compete in all 12 rounds of the World Championship as the third entry

for Team Peugeot-Hansen. Kevin continued to drive a Peugeot 208

in 2018 as an individual entry under the Team Peugeot Total banner,

putting in some impressive performances on his way to eighth in the

championship.

Kevin recorded his maiden WorldRX win at the 2019 Season opener in

Abu Dhabi. In 2020 he kept the pace and was very competitive and that

led to the 2021 season opener where he scored his second win.

En 2016, Timmy Hansen est rejoint au sein du team Peugeot-Hansen par le

nonuple Champion du Monde des rallyes FIA, Sébastien Loeb. Il remporte

une victoire, au Canada. Après quatre nouveaux podiums en 2017, Timmy

Hansen entame une 5e saison consécutive avec Peugeot en 2018. Aux côtés

de Loeb, Timmy parvient à signer deux nouveaux podiums et à terminer 6e du

championnat. Le constructeur français décide de se retirer du World RX pour

2019, mais le Team Hansen reste bien en place, avec à la clé de cette saison

2019, 4 victoires et le titre mondial pilote et teams, avec l’aide de son frère et

équipier Kevin.

En 2020, Timmy signe encore un succès et termine 3e du championnat. Timmy

Hansen est de nouveau présent cette saison avec la Peugeot 208 WRX et se

profile comme l’un des principaux prétendants au titre.

Frère cadet de Timmy et fils du célèbre Kenneth Hansen, Kevin a

commencé sa carrière dans le karting, dès 2005. Il est sacré Champion

du Monde en ROK Junior en 2010. En 2012, en rallycross, Kevin

Hansen remporte les JRX Series, mais aussi le classement junior du

championnat d’Angleterre et du championnat de Suède. Dès 2014, il

passe en RX2 et termine vice-champion.

En 2015, il fait mieux encore en remportant le championnat RX2 dès

avant la dernière manche. Il termine d’ailleurs la saison en Argentine

en disputant sa première course en Supercar. En 2016, Kevin grimpe

en Supercar et dispute le Championnat d’Europe FIA. Il domine la

saison en remportant 4 des 5 meetings et en étant sacré Champion

d’Europe.

Pour 2017, Kevin rejoint son frère et Sébastien Loeb dans le team

Peugeot-Hansen et dispute les 12 courses du World RX. Il atteint

la finale en Allemagne et s’assure une 8e place au classement du

championnat. Kevin Hansen poursuit son apprentissage en 2018

avec le Team Peugeot Total et réalise de solides performances lui

permettant de terminer 8e du général.

En 2019, Kevin remporte la course d’ouverture à Abu Dhabi et l’an

passé, Kevin a réalisé une saison très compétitive avant de remporter

une seconde victoire, lors de l’épreuve inaugurale de la saison 2021.

Following a handful of European RX and World RX outings in 2013 and

2014, Johan Kristoffersson made the full-time switch to the FIA World

Rallycross Championship in 2015 with Volkswagen Team Sweden,

winning the curtain raising World RX of Portugal event and finishing on

the podium a further four times, going on to claim third in the overall

standings.

Paired with Petter Solberg in the rebranded PSRX Volkswagen Sweden

team and driving a factory-developed Volkswagen Polo Supercar,

Kristoffersson dominated the 2017 & 2018 seasons. Furthermore – he

clinched the 2020 title in the same car.

In 2021 the most successful driver of the Championship made a surprise

switch from the Volkswagen Polo that he used in his dominating 2017

and 2018 campaigns to an Audi S1, run by the EKS JC squad.

Now Kristoffersson is aiming to fight for his fourth title with KYB EKS

JC.

Enzo Ide followed a somewhat unconventional route into rallycross.

Beginning his career in sportscars in the domestic Belcar series in 2010,

he graduated to the FIA GT3 European Championship the following year,

piloting an Audi R8 LMS for Audi Club Team WRT and winning three races

on his way to third in the overall classification. He secured the same final

position in Belcar, while triumphing in the 24 Hours of Zolder.

In 2012, Ide stepped up again to the FIA GT1 World Championship behind

the wheel of an AF Corse-run Ferrari 458 Italia GT3, before switching to

the Blancpain GT Series’ Sprint and Endurance Cups in 2013 in a Phoenix

Racing GmbH Audi R8 LMS GT3. He continued to contest the Blancpain

Sprint series until 2017, winning the title in his penultimate season courtesy

of four victories from ten starts.

Transitioning to rallycross in 2019, the Belgian made his debut in the

discipline in his home World RX event at Spa-Francorchamps in a JC

Raceteknik-entered Audi S1. He returned in Barcelona the following

year – progressing through to the semi-final on the second day of the

double-header season finale – and twice reached the rostrum in a one-off

appearance in the British Rallycross Championship.

In 2021, Ide embarks upon his maiden full campaign in the World

Championship in an Audi S1 EKS RX quattro fielded by EKS JC.

Le Belge a en effet débuté sa carrière en circuit, au volant de GT3. C’était

tout d’abord dans le cadre du championnat national Belcar, en 2010 avant

de se lancer dans le championnat d’Europe GT3 au volant d’une Audi R8LMS

du team WRT. Il remporte 3 courses et termine 3e de cette saison 2011.

En 2012, Enzo Ide grimpe encore d’un échelon et dispute le championnat

du monde GT1 au volant d’une Ferrari 488 GT3 du team AF-Corse. En

2013, il participe à la Blancpain GT Sprint Series et Endurance avec une

Audi R8 LMS du team Phoenix. Il continue en Sprint jusque 2017, avec 4

victoires et le titre à la clé.

Enzo Ide s’essaye au rallycross en 2019, lors de la première édition du

World RX à Spa-Francorchamps, avec une Audi S1 du team JC Raceteknik.

Il remet le couvert l’année suivante à Barcelone, atteignant le stade

des demi-finales et poursuit son apprentissage lors d’une manche du

championnat d’Angleterre.

Cette année, Enzo Ide a fait le pas et dispute toute la saison World RX au

volant de la deuxième Audi S1 de EKS JC.

Niclas Gronholm, son of two-time World Rally Champion Marcus,

is entering his sixth season of FIA World Rallycross Championship

competition.

In 2016, he contested a full World RX campaign with Olsbergs MSE –

picking up a best finish of 11th in Sweden – as well as all rounds of RallyX

on Ice in Sweden and the 2016 Finnish Rallycross Championship.

In 2017, Gronholm competed as an independent as part of the GRX team

managed by his father, securing his first final appearance and a career

best result of fifth place in Germany. In 2018, Grönholm remained with

GRX and ran newley built Hyundai i20 supercar alongside his teammate

Timur Timerzyanov. Niclas’s 2019 campaign was his most impressive,

recording two wins, scoring the most points per event tally, and finished an

impressive fourth despite missing two events due to appendicitis. In 2020

Niclas was strugling with the car set-ups and finished the season in 4th.

The Finn will be one of the title favorites again in 2021, having developed

the already impressive Hyundai over the winter, and pairing up with a new

team- mate – Krisztián Szabó.

Niclas Grönholm est le fils du double champion du monde des rallyes

En 2016, c’est sa première saison complète en World RX, avec le team

En 2017, Niclas intègre la structure GRX (Grönholm Rally X) dirigée par

son père. Il se qualifie pour sa première finale en World RX en Allemagne,

avec une 5e place à la clé. En 2018, il poursuit l’aventure GRX qui engage

de nouvelles Hyundai i20 pour lui et son équipier Timerzyanov. Sa saison

2019 reste pour l’instant sa meilleure, avec deux victoires. Une crise

d’appendicite l’empêche de disputer deux courses et il termine malgré

tout 4e du championnat. En 2020, Niclas termine à nouveau 4e après

avoir passé pas mal de temps à trouver de bons réglages pour sa voiture.

Le Finlandais est un des favoris de cette saison 2021, avec une voiture

qui apparaît très performante et un nouvel équipier, Krisztian Szabó.

A successful skier as a teenager – winning the Hungarian Youth

Championship in freestyle skiing at the age of 16 in 2008 – Krisztián Szabó

clinched his first car racing title that same year, in the Hungarian Autocross

Championship. He secured back-to-back FIA Junior Buggy hon- ours

in the discipline in 2009 and 2010, before stepping up to the Buggy1600

category, where he collected his third European Championship trophy in

2013.

In 2014, Szabó made his FIA European Rallycross Championship debut in

the Super1600 division in Italy, finishing on the podium. A full season in

the series with Volland Racing the following year yielded third in the final

standings, paving the way to consecutive Euro RX Super1600 crowns in

2016 and 2017.

In 2018, the Hungarian entered two Euro RX rounds in the headlining

Supercar class, placing second at Lohéac and sixth in Riga for Mattias

Esktröm’s EKS Audi Sport outfit. In 2019, Szabó stepped up to World RX,

reaching the final first time out with EKS Sport behind the wheel of an

Audi S1 and going on to finish tenth in the championship.

After making appearances for GRX SET in Sweden and Latvia in 2020, he

returns for his second full campaign in the World Championship with the

team in 2021.

Krisztián Szabó a d’abord été un excellent skieur, avec un titre national

manches Euro RX dans le team de Mattias Ekström, terminant 2e à

Lohéac et 6e à Riga. En 2019, Szabó est en World RX avec EKS, atteignant

sa première finale. Il terminera 10e du championnat.

Après quelques apparitions chez GRX Set, il dispute cette année sa

deuxième saison complète en World RX.

Kevin Abbring began his motorsport career in rallycross – winning the

Dutch and Belgian titles three times by the age of 16 – before switching

to rallying in 2007.

He achieved success on the international stage in the Junior World

Rally Championship from 2008 to 2010, tallying a brace of victories

and making history as the youngest driver ever to win a JWRC round.

In 2012, Abbring competed alongside Sébastien Ogier in a Skoda Fabia

S2000 in the WRC, then in 2013 won the Peugeot 208 Rally Cup in

France.

He subsequently played a key role behind-the-scenes in the development

of Hyundai Motorsport’s new i20 WRC, before claiming his maiden

WRC stage win and points in 2016.

Abbring returned to rallycross in 2019, entering the Norwegian and

Swedish rounds of the World RX campaign in an ES Motorsport-run

Škoda Fabia. A further outing followed with GCK UNKORRUPTED in

Finland in 2020.

British Rallycross Champion in 2007, the Irishman raced primarily

in the European Championship. At the wheel of his Ford Fiesta, he

regularly contests rounds of the world championship.

Nicknamed “Ollie”, he is the father of Patrick O’Donovan, one of the

rallycross rookies to watch and who is entered in RX2e.

Champion d’Angleterre de rallycross en 2007, l’Irlandais a

et signe ses premiers résultats probants en WRC avec des meilleurs

temps en spéciale et des points au championnat.

Abbring revient à ses premières amours, le rallycross, en 2019,

disputant les manches suédoise et norvégienne du World RX avec

une Skoda Fabia de chez ES Motorsport. Il a intégré la structure

Unkorrupted en Finlande en 2020 et dispute cette année toute la

saison avec la Renault Mégane de l’équipe.

FOR ACTION IN PORTUGAL

The battle for glory in the FIA World Rallycross Championship races into Portugal this weekend,

with a thrilling fight in prospect at Cooper Tires World RX of Montalegre – round seven of the 2021

season.

Montalegre hosted the very first World Championship event during the series’ inaugural campaign back in 2014, and

following a three-year hiatus, the fearless World RX warriors return to the undulating and challenging Vila Real track

this weekend.

With six rounds in the books so far in 2021, the hunt for honours is hotting up nicely. After a troubled start to his title

defence, three-time world champion Johan Kristoffersson (KYB EKS JC) has closed to just 12 points adrift of the top

of the table courtesy of back-to-back victories in Latvia and Belgium, and the Swede – the most successful driver in

rallycross’ modern era – has twice reached the highest step of the rostrum at the Circuito Internacional de Montalegre.

It is Kristoffersson’s countryman Timmy Hansen, however, who continues to lead the way. The 2019 title-holder came

out of the blocks flying with two wins and a second-place finish from the opening three outings, and he is confident his

Peugeot 208 will be a potent package here in Portugal.

Younger brother Kevin Hansen is similarly firmly in contention. Since winning the Catalunya curtain-raiser back in July,

the 23-year-old has been a consistent front-runner and podium-finisher, and second place at Spa-Francorchamps kept

his title bid on-track.

Niclas Grönholm opened his 2021 victory account in Riga, but a disappointing weekend in Belgium means the flying Finn

needs a big score if he is to maintain his championship aspirations. Grönholm’s GRX-SET World RX Team stablemate

Krisztián Szabó, by contrast, celebrated his maiden rostrum finish last time out and is one of only three drivers to have

progressed through to the final at every event to-date this season, so he is sure to be a leading protagonist once more.

Kevin Abbring had the hardest luck story to tell at Spa, topping the intermediate classification only to then find himself

tipped out of the lead in the first semi-final. The Dutchman is overdue a change of fortunes after starring behind the

wheel of Unkorrupted’s Renault Mégane, and a podium in Portugal would be a hugely popular result.

Enzo Ide in the second KYB EKS JC Audi S1 is going from strength-to-strength in his first full campaign of World RX

competition, and a final appearance on home soil in Belgium will have given the ex-GT racer a timely confidence boost.

Former British Rallycross Champion Ollie O’Donovan completes the Montalegre entry list, and is guaranteed to put on a

show in his distinctively-liveried Ford Fiesta.

CHAMPION TO BE CROWNED IN EURO RX3 FIGHT

The FIA European Rallycross Championship’s fiercely-disputed Euro RX3 class has been the proving ground for

several future stars on the World Championship stage, and this weekend, the series’ 2021 champion will be crowned at

Montalegre.

Having won three of the opening four rounds of the campaign, last year’s highest scorer Yury Belevskiy arrives holding

a 23-point advantage at the summit of the standings. The Russian will be determined to seal the championship in style

by adding to that victory tally – but he will face stiff opposition, not least from his own Volland Racing team-mates.

Kobe Pauwels turned the tables on Belevskiy to triumph at Lohéac in his maiden car racing campaign since stepping

up from CrossCar competition, and the talented Belgian teenager has given the championship leader a real run for his

money this season.

Similarly, Marat Knyazev in another Audi A1 pushed Belevskiy right to the chequered flag last time out at Spa-

Francorchamps to close in on second position in the title chase, and Polish rookie Damian Litwinowicz is riding the crest

of a wave following his breakthrough podium finish in Belgium.

Timur Shigabutdinov will be fired-up to shine after missing the latest round, while

Škoda star Jan Černý has consistently taken the fight to the all-conquering Audis in

2021 and is certain to be in the mix.

In order to spray the champagne, however, the Euro RX3 regulars will need to

get the better of an eight-strong contingent of local specialists, spearheaded by

national championship pace-setter João Ribeiro in his Škoda Fabia – raising hopes

of a home celebration this weekend.
