Harpreet Bhogal, better known

as Harps, has been with Kesman

Grooming since day one. Harps has a

fun personality and will immediately

lighten up your day through her

positive outlook. She will blow you

away with her knowledge of the hair

industry and always goes the extra

mile to create a perfect style for

each client.

-What made you want to become a

barber?

-Having been in the hair industry

for over 20 years, my background

originally comes from hairdressing.

From direct focus on the craft, my

skill set allowed me to prioritise

the importance of customer service

and business thinking. The beauty

within our industry is that there

are so many different avenues which

one can tap into. Having built

personal confidence over time, I

purposely pushed myself out of my

comfort zone and became a force to

be reckoned with. I spent crucial

time on education, networking

at fashion shows, assisting on

shoots and taking part in national

hairdressing competitions.

The beauty of barbering in the

present day is to see how both

fashion and music trends influence

male hairstyles. It’s such an

exciting industry which is

constantly evolving, and looking

forward to the next decade.

-How do you keep yourself up to

date with the latest hairstyle

trends?

-So for me, the most powerful tool

is my smartphone. I split my research

into two sections; editorial and

barbering. I love seeing how different

trends correlate throughout each

country via social media. Tik Tok and

Instagram are crucial in forecasting

this information throughout each

generation. Monthly barber magazines

are fantastic to review editorial

spreads, and to see creative

industries combine forces to project

beautiful content.

-What’s your top tip for someone

looking to adopt a new hairstyle?

-The most important part is

understanding each client’s lifestyle

and personality. Any decent stylist

can create a good cut inhouse, however

this needs to correlate into styling

for everyday life. It’s critical

that I advise my clients on both home

maintenance and styling out of a salon

environment. I strive to create the

perfect cut that looks good on both

lazy days and date nights with loved

ones.

-If you were a super hero what powers

would you have?

-Well, this is an easy one - Wonder

Woman of course! In my opinion, she is

a true comic book god and would love

to portray all of her powers.

-How long have you been in the hair

industry?

-Since early 2000s

Pantelis Vrousai, also known

as Pandi, is the man for the job.

Reliable, consistent with creative

vision, he will tailor each haircut

per client. Pandi has been a vital

member of Kesman Male Grooming since

day one. Clients feel at ease, sitting

in his chair due to his bubbling

personality and killer cuts.

-What made you want to become a

barber?

-I started cutting both friends and

family’s hair back in my home country

of Greece. Back then, it was more like

a hobby and alas it evolved into a

passion - and know I am hooked on the

Barbering Bug!

The ability of being in an industry

that allows me to be creative, made

barbering even more appealing to my

eyes. I started a two year course in

hairdressing college, which at the

time was a tricky decision because my

family were eager for me to pursue a

mainstream career path. I stood my

ground, followed my passion and here I

am today

-How long have you been in the hair

industry?

-Overall I’ve been in the hair industry

for nine years. I started as an

apprentice in a salon for six months,

specializing in men’s hair. During

this period, I pushed myself to learn

new styles, cutting techniques and

worked extremely long hours to achieve

my goals. Through the years I’ve been

fortunate enough to work alongside

award winning hair stylists, who have

taught me their secrets to the trade.

-How do you keep up to date with

latest hairstyle trends?

Nowadays social media plays a vital

role in our lives. Personally

[like Harps], I check all digital

platforms each day to see how

trends are evolving within our

industry. Most of my inspirations

come from educators and barbers

online, as it’s a great way to

see how they are pushing their

craft. Practical advanced courses

are another great tool, whereby I

gain physical skills and knowledge

within our trade. It’s also a great

stage to meet fellow London based

barbers, and chat about the highs

and lows of Barbering

-If you were a superhero what powers

would you have?

-If I had a superpower it would have

to be teleportian. The idea of being

able to travel everywhere within seconds,

and enjoy the beauty of other

countries’ cultures is something that

would be ace. No more delays in airports

-Whats your top tip for someone

looking to adopt a new hairstyle?

-My very first tip is for the client

to be aware of their head shape and

hair type.We also discuss lifestyle

before undertaking a fresh cut, as how

much time they have each morning plays

a critical role in maintenance.

-What made you become a barber?

Pre hair days, I used to work in

the catering industry. Working

unsociable hours was not for me

and I started researching a career

change. At the time, one of my

cousins owned a barbershop and

I started socialising with him

more in situ, and immediately

fell in love with the atmosphere,

creativity and culture of a barber

shop. The difficult part was

juggling my catering job [to pay

the bills] until I was qualified

within Men’s grooming. I ended up

working over a hundred hours per

week for six months, to juggle

everything required - but I have

never looked back. I am extremely

lucky to love my job, and glad I

took that leap of faith.

-How long have you been in the

hair industry?

-12 years

Guray Kesman is the owner of

Kesman Male Grooming and has won

multiple awards within the barbering

industry. He always had a clear

vision on how the men’s grooming

experience should be, and has created

a fantastic brand which outlines

this. With years of both knowledge

and experience, Guray will work his

magic and advise you on maintenance

and style tips.

-How do you keep yourself up to date

with latest hairstyle trends?

-I love following the fashion runways

from around the world - and of course

London has one of the best seasons to

offer. Hair plays such an important role

within editioral content, and I admire the

stylists, barbers and hairdressers who

work within this environment.

-What’s your top tip for someone looking

to adopt a new hairstyle?

-Understanding your own hair type and head

shape is so important. You might think

that by scrolling online, you have discovered

the perfect hairstyle for yourself

but it might not work with your hair type

or head shape. I always say to keep an

open mind about hairstyles, and always ask

your barber for their opinion.

-If you were a super hero what powers

would you have?

-Obviously I would be Superman, however

being an aries man I always want to be the

best at everything I do. I like to think

of myself as the male grooming version of

Superman - cutting fresh cuts per client,

and making them feel confident with their

new style.

-How does a haircut affect men’s

mental health?

In England,around one in eight

men has a common mental health

problem such as depression,anxiety,panic

disorder or obsessive

compulsive disorder.

These statistics are only relevant

to the cases that have been

reported. As many cases may go

undiagnosed.

Many men have internalized

outdated and harmful beliefs

about what it means to be a

man. Emotional and physical

isolation and the mental health

issues that result represent the

largest health crisis facing men

today.

There are so many ways to improve your mental health.

-Talk about your feelings.Talking about your feelings can help you stay

in good mental health and deal with times when you feel troubled.

-Keep active and exercise.

-Eat well.

-Drink sensibly.

-Keep in touch with your friends and family.

-Ask for help.

-Do something you are good at.

Finding the right barber and perfect hairstyle for yourself will increase

your confidence level. Having regular haircuts will keep you motivated

and you will always have something to look forward to.

When you find the right barber for yourself, you will realise that they

don’t just cut your hair. They’ll be your friend that you catch up with

every appointment, talk about life, how you feel & just have a laugh.

Barbers are good listeners and they often share their stories with

you as well. That shows that you are not the only one feeling these

emotions.

When you feel down, step back and think about what you love doing and

what makes you happy. Try doing those things more often and you will realise

your down moments are temporary. Always have a close relationship

with family and friends who give you positive vibes. They are the ones

who will cheer you up and make you feel good about yourself.

As a hair colourist of over 35 years, I have clear expectations

of how the salon experience should feel. And it is about

feeling.

How welcome you feel, how listened to you feel, how relaxed

you feel during the service you are having. And how great

you feel when you walk back out the door at the end of your

appointment.

I love having the full barber experience at Kesman Grooming.

I enjoy going somewhere other than where I work and being a

client. The smile at reception, the feeling of meeting with a

friend when Guray greets me and welcomes to the salon and sits

me in his chair. How easy and comfortable he makes the conversion

flow and of course the great haircut and perfect beard

trim.

John Spanton - senior colour specialist

Hair salons and barber shops have historically been poles apart. Women dedicating more time to

self care while men were more functional in their approach. Things have changed, men now have

higher expectations for our selves, in the way we look, and present ourselves to the world.

Men now understand the true benefit of how this all makes us feel better and the importance of

allowing ourselves the time to enjoy the process is part of that benefit too, and why not?

While a large number of us consider we are more limited on options for choices in hair, either

because of the industry we are in or how much we feel the need to conform to ‘social norms’, we

are branching out more and more. Keep an open mind, ask your barber for some new ideas, even

small changes can freshen up your look and stops us from feeling we are getting into a rut.

Guray, is an award winning barber for a reason, his work is immaculate. His attention to detail

is what separates him from the competition. So a great haircut is a given, throw in a great conversation

and warm friendly customer service, is it any wonder it feels like meeting up with a

great mate.

Andy Jeckells

Serial entrepreneur in the

brand and communications

and re/insurance sectors

Why?

If you’re reading this magazine, the chances are you

fit the description of professional, modern man. If not,

you’re probably waiting right now for one to have his hair

cut. Either way, we all most likely share a common belief

that appearance is important.

As modern men we’ve learnt to look after ourselves, we

like good grooming, and that’s a good thing in both our

work and personal lives. It’s made us conscious buyers,

prepared to spend the right amount of money to get what we

know we want. And that’s a quality cut.

But why spend our money here at Kesman? After all there’s

lots and lots of barbers. Why not just go for the

cheapest?

A good haircut is a reflection of our own identity. It’s personal; and it matters.

Whether when appearing as head and shoulders on Zoom, or in full and in person, we’re

all aware we are scrutinised. And it’s the little things that give off the signals that

tell others who we are, what to expect, and where we are in the pecking order. That’s

why we all want to project an image that’s the best possible version of us.

At the end of the day, the choice of barber comes down to a question of trust. We seek

out the brand, people and place that makes us feel comfortable – we gravitate to where

we feel we belong.

Although it’s the cut that matters most, it’s not just the cut that matters. The

environment, interior design, smell and the soundtrack all have to add up to form an

experience that promises us we’ll get what we’re after. And, if we’re spending good

money, it has to be in a place where we want to go and hangout with people we like.

So, why Kesman?

If we want good rather than cheap, it has to come from a barber with a highly developed

aesthetic, who can apply both creativity and good taste. We’re looking for dedicated,

hardworking and achievement oriented, because we want to feel we’re getting value for

money and, above all, because it’s the end result that matters. And that has to be

specifically all about us as individuals, not them as creatives.

To be at their best, barbers need to find and apply inspiration. Here’s how they do

it at Kesman – this is the Kesman secret sauce revealed and, in essence, it’s super

simple.

They sit you down, they listen to you, and they look at:

1. Your head shape

2. Your hair type

3. Your personality

Then they cut to suit you as an individual. It’s not about fads or fashion. It’s about

you and your style, and it’s what makes it your haircut.

Your very own style can take time to refine. It’s all part of an investment that will

reap rewards. Really, when you first go, you’re at the beginning of a journey – one

that starts over your first two or three cuts and settles down to become a relationship

for life, with a style that can change and adapt as you do.

Getting a great haircut should be an exciting, aspirational experience. When the cut is

right, it can give you a degree confidence that can be liberating.

We all deserve to be our best self. That’s why we choose Kesman.

The range of specialist therapies at Nimaya Mindstation have been perfectly selected to help you take time

out, relax, and calm your mind whilst rebalancing and strengthening your mind and body.

We offer some of the latest state-of-the-art therapies that work with the natural elements of water, air and

Based in Farringdon, Nimaya Mindstation is designed to surround you with a sense of peace and relaxation

as soon as you arrive.

The Long Covid Recovery - discover the secrets to fast-tracking your Long Covid Recovery

How Nimaya’s treatments are helping our clients...

Since we re-opened back in March this year, we have seen a significant increase in the number of new clients

at Nimaya Mindstation who are suffering with Long Covid symptoms, and who are turning to more natural

and alternative therapies to treat them.

One of the unpleasant repercussions of the covid-19 virus is the debilitating condition of Long Covid which

is now a rapidly growing disorder throughout the UK. Also known as Covid syndrome, post Covid-19

syndrome or long-hauler Covid-19, it has a range of symptoms similar to those of chronic fatigue syndrome

(CFS) or myalgia encephalomyelitis (ME).

What are the symptoms of Long Covid?

The range of symptoms is huge with a recent international study led by University College London identifying

over 200 symptoms across 10 different organ systems.

The most experienced symptoms include:

-fatigue

-post-exertional malaise (PEM)

-brain fog and cognitive dysfunction

-persistent breathing issues

In ‘The Covid Report’ - recently published by www.getwell.solutions (run by the best selling authors and

researchers into alternative medicine Lynne McTaggart and Bryan Hubbard) -it highlighted the research of

Dr Jeffrey Bland, the founder of functional medicine movement and researcher into post-viral syndromes. He

identified 4 strategies which are key to Long Covid recovery –

•Gastrointestinal Recovery

•Detoxification

•Mitochondrial Resuscitation

•Immuno Rejuvenation

Correcting and restoring the gut immune system is an essential first step in treatment, as it is strongly linked

to immune disorders and chronic inflammatory conditions - symptoms often found in long Covid sufferers.

Phases 1 and 2 of this strategy relate to removing inflammatory and allergen-producing foods from your diet,

followed by replacing them with healthy clean foods and digestive aid supplements.

Phases 3 and 4 are where Nimaya therapies come in to play and where they can be of great help in restoring a

healthy gut microbiome and then helping to repair the intestinal lining.

It can take up to 3 months to correct and restore the digestive system and there’s no quick-fix to this stage, but

by integrating the Nimaya therapies into the process, it will enhance and complement the recovery results.

THE START OF RECOVERY

By integrating the Nimaya therapies into the recovery process, it will enhance and speed up the results.

To try either of these Nimaya therapies, book online at www.nimaya.co or give us a call on 0208 103 0212.

Man.

“ All of us have to recognize

that being a man is first

and foremost being a good human.

That means being responsible,working

hard,being

kind,respectful,compassionate.

If you’re confident about your

strength,you dont need to show

me by putting somebody else

down. Show me by lifting somebody

else up.”

Father.

The key component of a boy’s healthy

relationship to his father is

affection,not ‘masculinity’. The boys

who fare poorly in their psychological

adjustment are not those without

fathers,but those with abusive or

neglectful fathers. Contrary to a

traditional stereotype,a sweet man in

an apron who helps out with the house

work may be just the nurturant kind of

father a boy most needs.

“Waste no more time arguing what

a good man should be.Be one.”

“We have this kind of male pride

thing. We say,’I can look after

myself. I don’t need to talk

to anyone;and its a complete

fallacy. Not communicating helps

to kill us.”

“It’s okay to cry.”

“Boys don’t hunger for fathers

who will model traditional

mores of masculinity. They

hunger for fathers who will

rescue them from it. They need

fathers who have themselves

emerged from gauntlet of their

own socialization with some

degree of emotional intactness.

Sons don’t want their father’s

‘balls’;they want their hearts.

And,for many,the heart of a

father is a diffucult item to

come by.

“Guys, you don’t have to act “manly” to

be considered a man;you are a man,so

just be yourself. Dont’t let society

make you believe you have to prove

your masculinity to anyone because

you don’t. You are you and you are

worthy,full stop.

“Being a man was not the opposite

of being feminine or emotional. It

was the opposite of being childish

and immature. It meant having the

courage to face your fears and

responsibilities,but also not

being afraid of your emotions or

weaknesses.”

Authentic Masculinity

-Recognizing external socialization.

Discovering self.Giving up performing

& mask wearing. Aligning with full

authenticity & humanity. Living in

integrity.
