Alaska is the largest state in the US and, at
1,480,000 sq km, is approximately six times
the size of the UK. Often referred to as 'the
last frontier', it encompasses epic frozen
landscapes stretching as far as the eye can see.
This sparsely populated area boasts towering
mountains, vast national parks, calving
glaciers and superb wildlife. Anchorage, the
largest settlement in Alaska, is the gateway
to the state and both the first port of call for
visitors arriving by air as well as a common
disembarkation point for cruises. The most
popular time to visit Alaska is between May
and August.
Hawaii is home to golden sandy shores,
fascinating Polynesian culture, untamed tropical
rainforests and one of the world’s most active
volcanoes. Each of its six major islands has
something different to offer, from the glitzy
beaches and luxury resorts of Waikiki on Oahu,
to the lush wilderness of Molokai, where no
building is higher than the tallest coconut tree.
Activities include snorkelling in the tropical
waters, rising above the rugged landscapes and
turquoise waters in a helicopter, visiting an active
volcano, learning the hula or simply relaxing on
one of the countless beautiful beaches.
