“refractory planes” is a series of sculptural
installations that are constructed and
deconstructed before and in reference to the
landscapes of the world. Each iteration utilizes
a range of organic and commercial materials to
frame the selected landscapes in novel ways.
Some of these materials include transparent
and opaque glass, silk and wool fabric, flowers,
and fruits. To date, each of the iterations has
included one to three collapsible metal frames
that are decorated with ornaments at the artist’s
fluid discretion in response to the selected
landscape. This work sought to highlight Earth’s
beauty in order to encourage viewers to question
the methods and referents they employ when
considering the land and their relationship to it.
