Forget New Year, autumn means a fresh start
for me, perhaps because it has still carries that
association with the beginning of the school year.
It feels like a good time to try something new, start
a class or take up a hobby.
If you feel the same way Taunton Brewhouse has lots to offer. For
those of an artistic bent there is painting, jewellery making, or
writing. If you learnt a new instrument in lockdown why not bring it
along and join our concert orchestra? If exercise is more your thing
there are flamenco and ballet lessons for every ability. As well as
picking up a new skill it is a great opportunity to meet people.

One and Two Day Workshops
For those who like to get fully immersed in an activity Taunton
Brewhouse has some special one and two day workshops on offer.
Evoking The Coast
16 Oct, 10am – 5pm, £65 Suitable for 18+
A semi-abstract painting and drawing workshop led by artist Sara
Dudman RWA. Rooted in seascape traditions, participants will
be encouraged to unlock their potential and create expressive
painterly responses to the stunning British coastline. Using
acrylic paints, Sara will guide you through tried and tested
techniques for creating expressive paintings.
Wild/Word/Craft
23 - 24 Oct, 10.30am – 4pm, £60 Suitable for 18+
Writing workshops are always popular and this one will be no
exception, a fabulous two-day nature writing workshop where
participants, as well as writing, create their own handmade books.
Guided by your writing tutor Helen Moore, you will observe nature
and wildlife along the River Tone, and write your own nature
inspired piece. Using recycled materials and collage techniques,
you will then make a unique, handmade book to present your
wild words to others. New writers are welcome - no previous
experience is required. Raincoats advised as partly outside.
Polymer Clay For Beginners
7 Nov, 10am – 5pm, £35
Learn how to create beads, necklaces, earrings, or even a small bowl
using polymer clay, and take home your finished piece at the end of
the day! Using a variety of tools, jeweller and artist Caroline Casswell
will take you through each step to create your own objects of beauty.

FAVOURITES
An all new offering and a
familiar favourite make
Christmas 2021 one to
remember on the West Somerset
Railway...
We’ll all remember last Christmas in one way or another, with tiers,
tests and contact tracing, but for visitors to West Somerset there was
much to enjoy. Santa Express services still went ahead in 2020 in a
fully compliant environment that delivered joy to young and old and,
perhaps more importantly, a safe way to celebrate Christmas. For
2021, these family favourites, with refreshments and an on board visit
from Santa himself, make a welcome return. But as darkness falls, an
all new offering will also take place along the popular heritage railway.
‘WSR presents: Winterlights’ will see a fully illuminated train depart
Bishops Lydeard for the first time ever, taking visitors through winter
woodlands and lineside displays to Crowcombe Heathfield and back.
Both festive services are expected to be popular and with limited
spaces, the message is clear... book now or miss out!
