Detailing and Drawings

Drafting Standards

Foreshortened dimensions are available for all drafting standards. Previously, they were

only available for the ANSI drafting standard.

Link Child Views to Parent by Default

When you create a projected view, the drawing view property Use named configuration

is set to <Link to parent> by default. Previously, the property was set to Default.

This behavior applies only to projected views created in SOLIDWORKS 2020 or later.

Location for Saving a New Drawing

When you save a new drawing, the default folder location in the Save or Save As dialog

box is the folder where the model in the drawing's first view is saved.

You can override this behavior by specifying a default folder in Tools > Options > File

Locations > Show folders for > Default Save Folder.

Performance Improvements in Drawings

When you create a drawing from an open assembly, the creation of the first view may

be faster than in previous releases.

Render Pipeline in Drawings

Drawings and drawing annotations benefit from the graphics architecture introduced in

SOLIDWORKS 2019, which implemented graphics acceleration and image quality scaling

across graphics cards.

This architecture provides a more responsive, real-time display especially for large models.

It takes advantage of modern OpenGL (4.5) and hardware-accelerated rendering to

maintain a high level of detail and frame rate when you pan, zoom, or rotate large models.

These performance improvements scale up with the higher-end graphics cards not fully

supported in previous versions of the SOLIDWORKS software.

Symbols on Sheet Formats

You can include geometric tolerance and surface finish annotations on sheet formats. The

annotations cannot include leaders.
