Improved Performance When Opening and Saving Files

from a Previous Version

In SOLIDWORKS 2020, most assemblies and drawings, that were saved in a previous

version, open nearly as fast as those saved in SOLIDWORKS 2020. Also, you can make

greater use of lightweight components and drawings without needing to convert them to

the current version.

Previously, some assemblies and drawings, which had not yet been saved in the current

version, took longer to open and save. This was particularly true for assemblies and

drawings with reference components in multiple configurations.

A system option, Force referenced documents to save to current version under

External References improves save performance. When you clear the option, only

documents that have been modified in the current session are saved to the current version
