Justice means giving God and neighbor their due. Complete the chart with at
least one example of how each commandment reveals God’s desire for justice. A
couple have been done for you.
The Commandments
1 I am the LORD your God, who brought you
out of the land of Egypt, out of the house
of slavery.
You shall not have other gods beside me.
How does this commandment reveal
God’s desire for justice?
Because God is God, the only true God,
he is due all our love and respect. Our
faith leads us to love Him about all else,
and to prefer nothing to Him.
DEUTERONOMY 5:6-7
2 You shall not invoke the name of the LORD,
your God, in vain.
DEUTERONOMY 5:11A
3 Observe the sabbath day—keep it holy.
DEUTERONOMY 5:12A
4 Honor your father and your mother.
DEUTERONOMY 5:16A
5 You shall not kill.
DEUTERONOMY 5:17
6 You shall not commit adultery.
DEUTERONOMY 5:18
Married love is total and self-giving. The
spouses do not have this relationship
with anyone else. A wife is due her
husband’s exclusive love, and vice-versa.
