9 Other word classes<br />

This chapter describes the word classes:<br />

• adverbs in §9.1,<br />

• adpositions in §9.2,<br />

• conjunctions in §9.3,<br />

• and interjections in §9.4<br />

The information provided here is <strong>of</strong> a preliminary nature due to limited data in<br />

the corpus, and stands to gain much from future research.<br />

9.1 Adverbs<br />

Adverbs compose an open word class and are defined by their ability to head an<br />

adverbial phrase; they can be further divided into two main groups:<br />

• derived adverbs<br />

• lexical adverbs<br />

Here, §9.1.1 deals with the former, while §9.1.2 presents with the latter.<br />

9.1.1 Derived adverbs<br />

At least one derivational affix seems to exist which derives an adverb from an<br />

adjective: the suffix -t, as illustrated by Table 9.1 on the following page.<br />

The adverbializing suffix -t triggers the weak consonant grade, when applicable.<br />

Two examples from the corpus are provided in (1) and (2) below.<br />
