His reaction to thenews, his search for the proper treatmentthrough a maze of doctors and other survivorsand some difficult nights dealing with therealities of cancer prompted him to write acolumn to his readers in November 2019about his cancer journey. In December heunderwent robotic surgery and returned towork just two days before New Year’s Day.He has been the golf writer and columnist for theDesert Sun since 1986. A 1982 graduate of CalState Fullerton with a B.A. in Communications, heworked at the Hi-Desert Star in Yucca Valley from1982 to 1986 before joining the Desert Sun in 1986.As the principle golf writer for the paper since then,he has covered events on the PGA Tour, LPGATour, PGA Tour Champions and other professionalevents in the desert and throughout California. Healso covered high school, college and amateur golfin the desert.His columns and stories have won numerousAssociated Press Sports Editors and CaliforniaNewspaper Publishers Association awards. In2012, he was named the California Golf Writersand Broadcasters Association’s Media Man of theYear. He is the author of two books about golf inthe Coachella Valley, “Fifty Years of Hope” on thefirst 50 years of the Bob Hope Classic, and “PalmSprings Golf: A History of Coachella Valley Legendsand Fairways” documenting the beginnings and therise of the game in the desert.The American Cancer Society offers services
