Sentenced was founded by designers Georgia Wilkinson & Lucy Graham, from<br />
Leeds. By definition, Sentenced is a way of thinking or an opinion; the brand<br />
aims to change a consumers’ way of thinking by bringing awareness and<br />
educating consumers on the environmental impacts of the fashion industry.<br />
Sentenced was launched with a mission to bring back quality over<br />
quantity; buy better and buy less. The brand strives to empower women<br />
through their unique designs and make a mark on the industry globally.
LUCY’S 5<br />
Sentenced was established in 2019 & launched just under a year later in 2020, during<br />
the pandemic. Although we both had a background in fashion, there were areas we<br />
would meet to discuss and educate each other. The work ethic and constant effort<br />
to better ourselves is how the brand was founded. We are determined, smart &<br />
empowering; we are always looking to improve and bring awareness to causes we<br />
feel strongly about, particularly the environment. With our fashion backgrounds and<br />
the environmental awareness, it was clear to us that we had the drive to create and<br />
grow a brand that is not only unique but responsible too. Sentenced is a step away<br />
from fast fashion & towards a cleaner, healthier future.<br />
Sentenced recognises that for something to be sustainable it must be achievable<br />
& maintainable. This is where sentenced bridges the gap between affordability &<br />
sustainable luxury.<br />
Becoming business owners is a working progress. We are still learning, it’s really<br />
difficult at times and it takes a lot of time but we love it. Sentenced is so fulfilling<br />
and we do it because we feel strongly about the product, the design & effects. We<br />
strongly encourage anyone wanting to start a fashion business and any existing<br />
businesses out there to really look at their supply chains and how they<br />
effect the environment. If everyone can make a conscious effort to do a little, it will<br />
make a huge difference. Our advice is: plan ahead, be organised and prioritise; this<br />
will look different for every business but it’s necessary in them all.<br />
We are both inspired by a multitude of things! Lucy finds inspiration in previous<br />
decades such as the Eighties and silhouettes and prints synonymous with that<br />
period. Georgia is inspired by objects and the beauty in every day; the juxtaposition<br />
is what influences the designs. The silk Blair dress & co-ordinating Bibi hoodie are a<br />
synthesis of our personal styles & influences.<br />
We see Sentenced becoming a driving force for change in the fashion industry,<br />
helping others to see the importance in being sustainable yet unique. We have so<br />
many things we wish to achieve & we know we will. We hope will you join & follow us<br />
on this journey.<br />
Sentenced has always been the dream, for us both. The two of us share the same<br />
values as well as the love for design and creativity. Even as children we knew the<br />
fashion industry is where we wanted to be and we’ve made every effort to get to<br />
where we are now. Sentenced pieces are made to exist for a lifetime, using innovative<br />
fabrications, certified GOTS materials & modern craftsmanship. Womenswear should<br />
celebrate the female form. The female body is art and we love to dress women in<br />
clothing that is individual, high-quality & kind to the environment.<br />

What inspired you to you start Rachelment?<br />
What started as a hobby getting me through a doctoral<br />
program in psychology eventually became a passion of<br />
mine. When I was particularly stressed about my classes,<br />
I made pendants and other kinds of jewelry for a few of my<br />
friends and family members just for fun. When I realized how<br />
much I actually loved jewelry and how it felt when I gave it<br />
to someone, I knew I had a calling other than psychology. I<br />
took a risk with the financial help of my mother and I officially<br />
launched Rachelment The Label in 2018 after independently<br />
planning and designing the brand for months. Psychology<br />
was my first love, but jewelry and entrepreneurship are my<br />
epic loves.<br />
What led you to design?<br />
I have always wanted something of my own- something<br />
people could have and enjoy that was a product of my own<br />
work. This desire is fulfilled with running RMTL, as I make<br />
virtually every decision from A-Z. Design is one of the best<br />
parts of running my business and nothing is more exciting<br />
to me than seeing the reaction week after week of my clients<br />
when new items are released.<br />
How would you define the Rachelment woman?<br />
The RMTL woman is mysterious. She leaves people<br />
wondering. People want to know where her jewelry is from.<br />
They want her opinion. She is classy and understated, yet<br />
unforgettable. She is mature and unique.<br />
Who is on your wish list to dress?<br />
#1 on my wish list is the infamous Kim Kardashian. She’s<br />
my inspiration in terms of being a businesswoman and<br />
powerhouse- and her beauty is breathtaking. She is<br />
positively influential and could easily change my entire life.<br />
How do you think social media has played a role in your<br />
success?<br />
Social media has been the KEY to having a successful<br />
business. You can reach an infinite amount of people, and<br />
there is always opportunity to grow your business there. It<br />
sounds easier than it is, though. I spend roughly 25 hours a<br />
week just planning social media strategies and marketingso<br />
there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes. My favorite<br />
part about having social media for my business is being<br />
able to connect with my customers, as well as showcase<br />
my brand aesthetic.<br />
How does it feel to be young female business owner in<br />
today’s industry?<br />
I am grateful for the opportunities that have been afforded<br />
to me through my mentors, as well as the choices and risks I<br />
have made and taken along the way. Becoming a business<br />
owner has been one of the best decisions I have ever made,<br />
and being a young female just gives me more time to build<br />
my success.<br />
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?<br />
In the next 5 years I hope my brand will become more<br />
recognizable, and also be available in stores. I don’t want<br />
to be known for volume necessarily, but for having a brand<br />
identity that is so strong, you can look at imagery and think<br />
to yourself: “that’s Rachelment.”

What inspires you to create new collections/designs season after<br />
season?<br />
I draw inspiration from my own style, as well as high fashion diamond<br />
jewelry. Self-motivation is the only thing that really gets me through.<br />
Rachelment has a new item released every single Friday which is hard<br />
to keep up with but is constant motivation for me. Since I operate RMTL<br />
myself, if I don’t do something, it doesn’t get done. That right there, and<br />
the money of course, is my motivation!<br />
If you could go back and tell yourself one thing before beginning your<br />
career what would it be?<br />
You’re doing the right thing- this risk will pay off.<br />
As a young entrepreneur, what advice would you give to girls wanting<br />
start their own business?<br />
My advice is to get organized- you can never be too organized. Do your<br />
research of the industry, and don’t be shy with investing in research.<br />
Most of all: learn to love what you are doing. If you’re not passionate<br />
about your business, it will show and you will struggle more than<br />
necessary (especially in the beginning).

"Dreaming cuba" Remembering every corner in which they<br />
were together and now it only remains in her memory.<br />

Social awareness and need<br />
for uniqueness and selfexpression<br />
is potent and<br />
continues to grow. Although,<br />
diversity and inclusivity are<br />
still one of the biggest issues<br />
in the fashion industry, that is<br />
deep-rooted in stereotypes<br />
and prejudice. It is known that<br />
stereotypes can still affect and<br />
change people's perceptions<br />
of others. Furthermore, for<br />
decades the fashion industry<br />
was promoting “lofty ideas” and<br />
unrealistic definition of beauty,<br />
especially in the modelling<br />
sector, which resulted in<br />
limitations in self-expression<br />
and self-esteem growth; it<br />
left no room for diversity and<br />
made fashion unrelatable.<br />
This series brings to life the<br />
definition of uniqueness<br />
as a quality of being one<br />
of a kind, showcasing the<br />
beauty and uniqueness<br />

Uniqueness as a<br />
quality of being one<br />
of a kind, remarkable,<br />
unequalled and<br />
incomparable.<br />
With the need and<br />
sense of uniqueness,<br />
diversity and<br />
inclusivity have been<br />
one of the biggest<br />
issues in the Fashion<br />
industry for decades.<br />
To fight the lack of<br />
diversity I embrace<br />
uniqueness and<br />
break stereotypes<br />
by showcasing the<br />
beauty of redhead<br />
models only.
The fashion industry<br />
has long been called<br />
for lack of diversity and<br />
been deep-rooted in<br />
prejudice. Fashion sells<br />
trends but it should also<br />
set the trend on creating<br />
an equal society.<br />
It is not a secret that for<br />
decades, the definition<br />
of beauty was heavily<br />
narrowed, especially in<br />
the modelling sector.<br />
Along with garments,<br />
the fashion industry<br />
also sells self-esteem<br />
and personal identity,<br />
therefore it should<br />
create a safe place<br />
where all individuals<br />
can express themselves<br />
and their uniqueness<br />
through the fashion and<br />
not feel judged by not<br />
following “the usual”<br />
or “known” trends.<br />

Estimates are that less than 2%<br />
of the World’s population is red<br />
haired. It makes people with red<br />
hair stand out more from the crowd<br />
and make them even more unique.<br />
The rarity of red hair made people<br />
with other hair colour suspicious<br />
though creating loads of<br />
stereotypes stigmatising red hair<br />
and its uniqueness. The Fashion<br />
industry is simply not celebrating<br />
uniqueness to its full potential,<br />
however, people are more and<br />
more aware of their identity, want<br />
to own it and are not scared<br />
to express their uniqueness.

Among stereotypes and prejudice,<br />
which don’t portray people<br />
as individuals because they<br />
ignore complexity and diversity,<br />
therefore reject uniqueness.<br />
With stereotypes that often<br />
influence and shape how people<br />
interact with each other, and how<br />
they portray themselves, it is<br />
important to grow confidence within<br />
ourselves. The confidence that<br />
will help to promote acceptance<br />
and normalise the “different”,<br />
embracing uniqueness.
Stereotyping is assuming about<br />
others things that most of the<br />
time don’t reflect the reality,<br />
and is not true. Prejudice and<br />
discrimination towards redheads<br />
is not new, nor uncommon.<br />
Studies showed that 92% of<br />
men and 87% of women with<br />
red hair report being mocked<br />
or bullied because of their<br />
hair colour. Disagreeing with<br />
a strong stigmatisation of red<br />
hair, and believing that red<br />
haired people are hot-tempered,<br />
wacky or strange I show you<br />
that they simply represent joy,<br />
warmth, enthusiasm, creativity,<br />
expression and success.

Fátima Chapel is a brand, from a young designer, open to<br />
any public with a young spirit. Where you seek to get out of the<br />
comfort zone and the trends imposed by consumer society. It is<br />
characterized by having a naive and kitsch identity, giving great<br />
importance to the combination of colors. Cause an impact to<br />
the consumer and generate sympathy. A cry of freedom and<br />
fun that characterizes the designs of the Chapel of Fatima.<br />
The most kitsch soleá, a declaration of love for flamenco with<br />
a dissident vision of it through kitsch culture. It is a breath of<br />
encouragement to stay calm when the world may seem unstable<br />
or confusing. It's like a little push of breath to dive deep into<br />
imagination and loosen up at every fold, layer, and seam as you<br />
explore at full capacity without feeling any trace of the ridiculous.<br />
Through the following collection, the relationship<br />
between flamenco and kitsch culture is observed,<br />
delving into the aesthetics of both and what they entail.<br />
Kitsch aesthetics refers to what is considered cheesy, tacky, childish,<br />
a plus is more. Sometimes it is considered in bad taste or oldfashioned,<br />
although from another perspective it is the way of ironic<br />
and exaggerating fashion, a way of "pretending to be". On the other<br />
hand, flamenco is an artistic expression that is born from the mixture<br />
of various cultures and is part of the Spanish culture and imagination.<br />
This mixture of references is what gives a context to create the<br />
collection. They want to alter the normality of the functioning of society.<br />
Perverting the public in a way inspired by art and visual aesthetics.
