Newman also bought an aftermarket cab reline kit
to reupholster parts of the cab, though the seat only
required a good clean, and the tractor’s suspension
mechanisms were lubricated and painted.
Since it has been restored, Newman says he’s
done several trips to Oakey – about 28km away –
and visited the Goombungee Show in the tractor.
“The transmission is the quad-range option and
this serves my requirements quite good on the
country roads around the Downs,” he says.
“[I’ve been] towing the heavy-duty trailer
transporting my David Brown 50TD dozer with
the ability of being able to change on the move
within the four speeds in the top transport range.
“It isn’t as fast as I would like on the road but, with
the roads around here, you probably wouldn’t want
to go much faster without some sort of suspension
on it,” he adds.
The tractor has also spent a few hours with a
heavy-duty slasher doing paddock maintenance,
cutting fire breaks and dressing up farm tracks with
a Britstand 6ft 1.8m)-wide rotary scoop.
“This scoop is as just as effective as the tractor pull
sled at loading up the engine,” says Newman.
