Lauren Faulk
he llegado a conocer el sabor enriquecedor
Among rice fields that my grandfather cultivated and the crawfish that crawled across the road when
they flooded, I was born more Cajun than boudin and the words and last names that end in “eaux”. As
a child, I danced to Zydeco music with my dad in the kitchen and I learned to peel crawfish tails by the
age of three. My Louisiana roots have made me who I am today and any time I go back to those open
fields near the swamps of Crowley, I feel home.
Some would say that just as much blood that flows through my veins that's Cajun, the same amount
is Latino. Nine years ago, I fell in love with the food, the mariachis, the warmth and above all, the
people. Ever since then, I keep falling in love with its beauty. Mexico is now the second place I call
home. As a singer, I have gotten to know the enriching flavor of its history from Garibaldi to Tlatelolco
and am still falling in love with its beaches, magical towns, and tacos.
Thanks to my parents' jobs, I was able to travel and get to know various parts of Latin America
between the ages of fourteen and eighteen, getting to know the beauty of the Latin culture. Once I
began learning Spanish, I knew somehow this region was going to captivate me for the rest of my
life. I later decided to join my passion for teaching and education with the love for this culture
studying Education of English as a Foreign Language and for my Master´s, Administrative Education
which both brought me to create my own language institute, Latin Language Link, in Mexico City,
Mexico.
I try to live each day in Mexico with the heart of a teacher to offer English education to Mexicans
with a unique twist of my Cajun culture, with the spirit of a singer discovering the musical riches
that this wonderful country has given the world, and with a grateful stomach of having been born in
and later live in two countries with the best cuisine on the globe. I was born in a state with a unique
heritage, and I now live in a country of the same richness. Cajun by birth, Mexican by choice.
¿QUIERES CONSEGUIR ALGO?
¿No
conseguir! Trabaja duro, sin obsesionarte.
Por: Stefany G. Álvarez.
DO YOU WANT TO GET SOMETHING?
THINK ABOUT ELSE!
For example, to stay in shape, it is best to stop
obsessing.
t's an order: don't think of white bears! We are sure
that it had not even occurred to them to think about
them, but now that we have told them, they are
going to imagine them. That happens when they
want to get in shape and become obsessed with not
eating. Science has another idea: to achieve a goal,
they must stop forbidding things and start enjoying
life. Don't you believe us? Look at the studies:
“I'm going to give you a bonbon. If you don't eat it,
in 20 minutes I'll give you another one ”. What would
you do? Would you wait? In the 1960s, Stanford
psychologists told 4-year-olds that they gave them
an extra bonbon if they waited. Years later, the researchers
interviewed the participants, now adults.
Those who endured and won the second bonbon
had better lives than the impatient ones. His secret
was not to think about the chocolate.
Can you stop thinking about white bears (or eating)?
In the 1980s, Harvard University psychologist Daniel
Wegner asked a group not to think of white bears
and gave them a little bell to ring every time they
thought of those animals. The bells did not stop
ringing. The suggestion of the American Psychological
Association is that to stop thinking about
something you have to be distracted.
Now imagine: You have to make people use regular
stairs more than electric stairs to get them to exercise.
In an experiment in 2009 in Stockholm, they
turned a normal staircase into a piano - each step
was a note. Next to it was an escalator, but people
stopped using it to play on the piano ladder. Use of
the ladder increased 66%.
Now you know the secret behind what you want to
achieve! Work hard, without obsessing over it.
no incluye consejos.
2.- No respondas inmediatamente.
How to face criticism
Any criticism represents a challenge for most
of us, especially for highly sensitive people, it
can be devastating.
Sensitive personalities tend to have more intense
reactions to criticism of respect than
less sensitive ones and as a result, certain
tactics are often employed to avoid facing
criticism, such as pleasing people, criticizing
oneself first (rather than criticism). The other
person has the opportunity and of course
avoids the source of the criticism at all costs.
If you are a very sensitive person and you
struggle with the overwhelming thoughts that
a criticism produces, here are some of the
strategies that you can use and that aim to
help you cope better, in addition to teaching
you to grow through these "bad" experiences.
In this article I want to share 7 tips to face
criticism.
1.- Find out if the criticism is constructive or
destructive. The difference is the way in which
the comments are made, constructive criticism
points out mistakes but includes advice, while
destructive criticism aims to directly attack or
bring down the person and of course does not
include advice.
2.- Do not respond immediately. The best we
can do is resist the urge to respond immediately.
It is important then to take a step back in
the situation and think about how it is going to
be processed, wait until you find yourself calmer,
and be clearer before saying something that
you may regret.
3.- Avoid polarized thinking. This type of thinking
prevents people from seeing themselves more
comprehensively and at the same time realistically
with both positive and negative ranges.
4.- Ask questions. It can be easy to misinterpret
the slightest negative review. So ask questions
to make sure you fully understand what they
are telling you.
5.- Find out what is true in what they are telling
you. Try to listen with an open mind, you will
surely find something you can reflect on, for
better or for worse, people act as mirrors in
our lives that reflect the things that we cannot
see for ourselves.
6.- Separate the feelings from the facts. Do not
believe everything you feel, the feelings are
not the facts, avoid triggering feelings of shame,
anger, frustration, etc., instead let's focus only
on those aspects of the situation that are
bothering us.
7.- Do something good for yourself. After
receiving criticism, it is not uncommon for our
ego to feel as if it has been beaten. After this
experience you could provide a little self-care,
doing something that helps you calm down.
If you are kind to yourself when things get
complicated, you will find that it is easier to
achieve greater balance and inner tranquility.

As if that were not enough, in Louisiana we
must be prepared for floods, tornadoes,
hurricanes and also the extenuating temperatures
that, mixed with humidity, become
a potential danger to human life and health
as well as that of animals. The victims are
mainly people who work outdoors, the
elderly, people with chronic conditions and
children. Don't risk your health!
Sunstroke and
heat exhaustion
·Try to choose times in the morning
or in the evening to do gardening or
construction work.
·Do work and rest intervals in cool,
shady areas.
·Stay hydrated.
·Wear light-colored, lightweight clothing.
·Protect yourself with wide-brimmed hats.
·Use sunscreen.
Akamai has a massive glitch, and with it, half the internet goes down.
Network no estaban funcionando.
Lines, Bri sh Airways, Capital One, Go Daddy, PlaySta on, UPS, Airbnb, AT&T o incluso algunos medios de
Most of you reading this may wonder when the massive failure occurred. Others, on the other hand,
no ced that at noon pages like Weather, services like Airbnb or PlaySta on Network were not working.
Regardless of which group you belong to, the massive glitch that occurred on July 22 affected some of
the biggest Internet sites on the planet. What happened? The reason was a problem with the Akamai
Edge DNS service.
What is a DNS? DNS is the acronym for Domain Name System. The best way to think of them is as a
phone book for the pages that inhabit the web. When you enter a URL in your browser, what this
technology does is that it connects the address you are entering with the IP address of the server. In this
case, Akamai is responsible for complying with these requests, while also protec ng these types of pages
from DDoS a acks.
Why is this drop so important? Perhaps you
will remember a month ago when Fastly's CDN
took with it to sites like Amazon, Twitch and
Reddit. Something similar happened today with
the sites of Delta Air Lines, Bri sh Airways,
Capital One, Go Daddy, PlaySta on, UPS, Airbnb,
AT&T or even some media that were not
available for a few minutes. In Colombia, even
media like Tiempo were down.
Pages like Pingdom, which monitor the performance
of websites, claim that about 30,000 sites were
down during this failure.

www.elcentrola.org/caminofinanciero.
The economic status of Hispanics has been disproportionately affected since February 2020,
with approximately half (49%) of Hispanics saying that they or someone in their household has
received a pay cut or lost their job, or both. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, compared to 33%
of all American adults, according to a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center. While racial
and ethnic wealth and income gaps existed before the pandemic, the fact that job losses have
fallen disproportionately in our community means that these gaps have vastly widened. Now more
than ever it is important to create a financial path that will help our community achieve economic
well-being and achieve its financial dreams despite being in the midst of a pandemic.
On Tuesday, July 6, the first face-to-face graduation of the Camino Financiero program was held.
The Camino Financiero Program was an 8-week program that included a combination of workshops
and individual counseling for 17 Hispanics interested in learning how to establish, improve, and
restore their credit history. Participants learned to read their credit reports, created plans to increase
their credit scores, budgets, debt management plans, and created savings.
Interested in learning more about the program? You can participate virtually using zoom! The next
Camino Financiero course will begin in September, register now by visiting
www.elcentrola.org/caminofinanciero. The Camino Financiero program is provided free of charge
but requires registration and a commitment to participate in 4 workshops and 3 personal counseling
appointments for 2 months.
Doubts about the cat litter box?
We give you some tips
The litter box is an essential accessory if we want to have a cat, as these animals are known to be extremely
clean, and this leads them to relieve themselves in a place where they can hide them.
This means that when it comes to getting a litter box, it is important to make sure that it is a comfortable
and pleasant place for the animal, not only to avoid behavior problems, but to have greater control over
cleaning.
We must start with the appropriate location, and this must be in a quiet place where the pet can enjoy
some privacy, that is easily accessible and that is very well ventilated, but above all, that it is far from the
kitchen.
When choosing the box as such, the average measurements that we should look for are 40cm long, 30cm
wide and up to 12cm high, although this also depends largely on the size of your cat, if you have questions
we recommend consulting with a veterinarian.
Take into account that if you have more than one feline at home, then each one will need their own sandbox,
because by their nature these animals tend to be very jealous of their space.
Now the sand, here we have many options, ranging from the simplest and cheapest to other more effective
and higher-priced ones, such as binders, which make cleaning easier, or those with flavoring to mask odors;
here it depends directly on your preferences.
I hope these tips have helped you! Send us a photo of your kitten and tag us on
Facebook-Carasandfaces with the hashtag #ilovemypet
Táctica &
Estrategia
Por:
Mari Albarran.
Consulado de México en Nueva Orleans
Asuntos Comunitarios
sociedad.
I will talk about tolerance, taking up that June
was the month of LGBTQ + pride, now
celebrated by almost everyone and almost in
all cities, however, we will have to raise awareness
of how much this community has fought to
achieve tolerance and equality in your rights.
I want to remind you that not only in June we
must promote tolerance and respect for people,
but that it should become a way of life.
Tolerance is respecting the ideas, ways of life or preferences of other people, do you do it? As
a society we must normalize all differences and accept them, remembering that the basis of a
better community is respect. So it would be worth asking ourselves how tolerant we are of
difference and how much we respect other points of view.
Now there are many LGBTQ + organizations that promote events, help and give assistance
such as Familias del Sur directed by Ivan Castillo, who in addition to providing information
and assistance on health issues, provide emotional support.
This organization is the first Latino LGBTQ organization in Louisiana, so follow them on
Facebook @ familiadelsurlgbtq1 Let's continue to promote tolerance and be part of a better
society.
CREMA DE CACAHUATE CASERA
HOMEMADE PEANUT CREAM
Instrucciones
Preparation:
36
1. If you can't find roasted peanuts, you can roast the
peanuts in a pan. You will have to do them in batches.
Place a few on the pan, without adding oil or anything,
and let them toast over medium-low heat for a few
minutes until they are golden brown. You just have to
be aware that they do not stick and that they toast
more or less equally, for this, you will have to stir
frequently.
2. Add the peanuts to an electric grinder –which is
powerful (from 600 W), since if not, it can burn or break–
and beat for 2-3 minutes until you get a cream to your
liking. Watch out! The longer you leave it beating, the
more liquid it will be.
3. Store the cream in an airtight glass container in the
fridge. Keep in mind that it will harden, so take it out a
little before consuming it to warm it up. Holds perfect
2-3 weeks. It is normal that over the days some of the
oil rises to the surface, but you only have to mix it
again to unify it.

GUAYAQUIL, ECUADOR.
Hola amigos…
Hello friends… Today I want you to join me on a fabulous tour of one of the most important
ports not only in Ecuador, but in the entire world, which due to its location and infrastructure
provides many facilities for international maritime trade. I'm talking about Guayaquil, also
known as "The Pearl of the Pacic", a city that contains history and tradition. Full of imposing
and majestic buildings, parks turned into gardens, stately mansions and the most impressive
thing is its people, who are very warm and hospitable. They are people worth knowing.
Guayaquil is the perfect destination to enjoy a weekend with a variety of cultural and
outdoor plans, without spending a lot of money. You can visit the Malecón Simón Bolívar,
which is approximately 2.5 km long. In it you can enjoy museums, shopping centers, restaurants
and docks full of boats of all sizes, it is quite a show!
Do you want to surf? Let's go to Montañita beach, which by the way is very famous for its
huge waves, which is ideal for practicing this sport. And just like you are, there are tons of
activities and places to enjoy. So if you have the opportunity to go, be sure to visit this
magical city!
Well friends, see you next month to go discover another little corner of this beautiful world!
