~ THE 2021 EXHIBITOR QUESTIONNAIRE ~

got a bit deep and meaningful this year

Lockdown made me realise just how vital making by hand is to me. It is what I do, who I am and at

the very core of my existence. It’s my support system and so much more than a way of making a

living - an instinct - a habit - a default setting. I was interested to know what it meant to my fellow

Handmade exhibitors…. So one of the questions I asked was this….

What does MAKING BY HAND mean to you?

“Everything”

“Total escape”

“What I make is me”

“Living in tune with myself”

“I can’t imagine life without making”

“It nourishes my heart, mind and soul”

“A day without making something feels like a wasted day”

“It settles me, and when it’s going well, raises my heart rate”

“It’s like a secondary language - I speak through what I create”

“at the root of all I do - an integral part of who and what I am”

“The sheer joy of making a 3D version of an image in my head will never grow old”

“When it brings happiness and joy to someone it is beyond amazing”

“What I get from it feeds me more deeply than the money I earn.”

“If I didn’t make to sell, I’d make cakes and be too fat to move ;)”

“It shows a part of us that we don’t always see ourselves”

“Using clay, I feel spiritually connected to the earth.”

“Survival - without it I would be nothing”

“It’s the strongest part of who I am”

“Making by hand is my life”

“It makes my heart sing”

Whoah!! That’s a bit heavy!

BUT every single one of those words is true for me too (especially the cake bit).

I suspect each of us can relate to everyone else’s version in some way.
