<strong>Caladium</strong>s were first successfully<br />
bred in the1860s. One of the oldest<br />
hybrids, “Candidum” is still a very<br />
popular variety.<br />
By 1910, they had made their way to Florida. Today,<br />
almost all commercial caladium production in the<br />
world takes place in central Florida, most in Lake<br />
Placid. There are approximately 1200 acres in the area<br />
producing these lovely plants and more than 2000<br />
named varieties have been produced over the past<br />
150 years.<br />
