Blackheath & Thornburgh College (BTC) has
offered boarding since the school was founded
in 1919.
The boarding community is a strong, unified
group of independent young individuals who
cherish their time and friendships at the College.
At BTC each child is valued for their strengths
and abilities. The aim is to provide constructive

passions and talents. Almost half of the student
body at BTC are boarders, which is why the
strong sense of community and inclusion is so

The tradition of boarding has played an
important role in the life of Brisbane Boys’
College for over a century. It is here in the
Boarding House that boys from all corners of
the globe enjoy the camaraderie that boarding
at BBC affords, building lifelong friendships
as they immerse themselves in the academic,
sporting, co-curricular, service and cultural
offerings of the school, located just 5km from
the Brisbane CBD.
BBC’s residential curriculum provides boarders
with intentional learning opportunities which

Boarding at Brisbane Grammar School gives
boys the opportunity to live on campus at one of
Australia’s leading schools.
In May 2020, the School opened Griffith House
for boarders in Years 5 to 8. The modern facility
ensures the boarding accommodation now
matches the quality of the Academic, Student
Wellbeing and Cocurricular programs.
BGS boarders are part of a House ‘family’ and
are kept busy through a variety of programs,
from academic enrichment to public purpose,
ensuring they are engaged and supported.

Boarding has been at the heart of Anglican
Church Grammar School (Churchie) for

Boarding is integral to the Downlands
Community and the boarders are the heart
and soul of the College. Downlands adopts
the family as its model for boarding, and
caters for many rural families located
throughout Queensland, New South Wales,
South Australia and the Northern Territory.
The boarding experience is much more
than just meals and beds. Downlands
provides an environment that promotes
growth as an individual, the development
of interpersonal skills and access to a wide
variety of opportunities and activities that
may not otherwise be available. Downlands
is located in Toowoomba on 38 hectares with
a 14 hectare on-site farm.
