Bat & Chat Expands<br />

<strong>Wigan</strong> Table Tennis<br />

Club are delighted<br />

to announce that<br />

following funding<br />

from Sport England,<br />

the club is expanding<br />

their successful Bat and<br />

Chat programme for<br />

the over 55’s. The Bat<br />

and Chat sessions take<br />

place on Mondays and<br />

Thursdays from 11:00 to 13:00, and now from Sundays<br />

9:30 am to 11:00. These sessions will also include input<br />

from our team of coaches and are open to all abilities.<br />

TV Presenter Dr Miriam Stoppard hailed the benefits of<br />

table tennis in her blog, claiming that “Table tennis is the<br />

perfect activity to keep you happy, healthy, active and<br />

in good spirits”. Dr Stoppard continues “It doesn’t only<br />

keep your body fit; it keeps your brain fit and all that<br />

complicated hand-eye co-ordination works its magic with<br />

brain cells and helps prevent dementia”.<br />

The club also runs<br />

informal general<br />

practice sessions for<br />

players of all ages and<br />

abilities on Saturday<br />

morning (10:00 to<br />

12:00) and Wednesday<br />

evening (19:00 to<br />

21:00), as well as a<br />

junior coaching session<br />

on Wednesday evening<br />

(18:30 to 20:00). The club is situated in Platt Bridge<br />

Community Centre, Victoria Street in Platt Bridge (WN2<br />

5AH) and the friendly group welcomes new members of<br />

all ages and abilities.<br />
