Using Solar Water Heating Kits at Home
Are you living anywhere in Northern USA or
Canada? If yes, then you should consider
using a closed loop or an active solar water
heating system for hot water requirements at
home. This system requires a glycol based
heating fluid that won’t freeze during winter
months.
However, a drain back system or a compact
solar water heater can be used in other
southern areas. The areas don’t have any risk
of damage due to freezing. When the freezing
occurs heavily, it’s necessary to protect the
system with a heating fluid that can withstand
temperature going below 0 C.
Again if you’re looking for a perfect way to go
green, you should definitely invest in a solar
water heating system. As compared to solar
PV kits, an average household can retrofit
their existing water heater to solar powered
water heating kit within $3500. A complete
solar home heating kit can cost you a few
dollars more.
Solar Collector –
Solar collector is an integral part of solar powered water heating
systems. It captures solar energy and converts to heat energy.
Pump Station and Controller –
The pump station and controller helps in transferring heat from the solar
collector to the heat exchanger. This process will be done when there’s
availability of positive heat energy to transfer during the day time.
Heat Exchanger –
Heat exchanger is responsible for transferring usable heat energy from the
glycol to the potable water and won’t mix both fluids.
Flexible solar piping and fittings are
designed specifically for the quick
installation of solar hot water systems.
They connect the system together to
form a pressurized closed loop solar
heater. The solar piping is made from
stainless steel and pre-insulated with
high temperature insulation.
Generally, the piping has a tough UV
resistant coating around for protection
against the degradation in sunlight.
Stainless steel piping is much more
affordable than copper piping
